It was a platform wherein the underprivileged got a chance to learn new skills for example- football, ICT , cooking and other activities and sport. As a part of my CAS component, I had volunteered for football. I playing football for 5 years have many skills and attributes to teach underprivileged children which would help them and make them happy. I was very knee to teach them which sort of build-ed up a connection with the children and me. The session started at 14 August and ended at 25th August.

LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills I have never taught someone especially children who are younger to me. Service session also gave me a chance to learn new skills which would help me further in life. There was one problem which we faced as a team was a language issue, in my team, there were only limited people who could speak Gujarati and the chaps use to understand Gujarati only, so as I know Gujarati helped my fellow members to help them and make them understand.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As it was a school event, our school had already made a plan for us and wanted to follow it. For the 1st Saturday we wanted to go as per the plan but as it was the was hard for us because some activity that we would want to make them do, was not included in the plan. As the 1st day passed by we decided that we all should sit and make a change in the plan so that it is more time efficient and children also enjoy it with full excitement. After the 1 -2 Saturdays it became a pleasant and smooth running class.

L4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

coming to school on weekend, that too after 5 working days do require a commitment in itself. I would try to make sure that I could attend all service session. I didn’t want to hamper someone learning because of me wherein the students were so energetic and energized for learning new skills. Being a volunteer is not an easy job, it requires a lot of focus and attention so that the session could run smoothly. I had shown commitment to make the children learn new skills and making the plan for the service session.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working. There were many students in football which made chaotic in the start but there were volunteers in football too which helped us to manage the children. All the volunteer had sat down together and discuss their role and how they are going to teach the children. We made groups of children as well as of volunteers. 2-3 volunteers use to teach a 5-6 student so that the student is comfortable and gets proper attention on what and how to do so. There were also some arguments which happened but then was sorted out as a team. At the end having a team was very beneficial and enjoyable.

To conclude I would say Service session was one of the best CAS experience. It also helped me to learn new skills and made me achieve my learning outcome astoundingly. It also made me realize how fortunate I am that get education and resources.

Service session was held in Fountainhead school itself. Our school had invited some underprivileged children from the neighboring school.
