Karma Kitchen

Karma Kitchen was organized in our school where we had taken the responsibility to cook food and serve it to the support staff of our school. It was not only about the food but we adorned the place with decoratives. As a token of appreciation we made cards and gave them an opportunity to exhibit their talent of dancing and singing. We were delighted to see the group and solo performances. This was our way of expressing gratitude towards them for the support they provide to the school.

This was a good time for us to step into their shoe for a day and understand their duties. We made their day special by offering our service to bring a big smile on each of their face. They are the people who help us in our daily routine from ensuring our safety in the bus to providing food, or maintaining cleanliness. They are on their toes and readily offer to assist as and when required.

Learning Outcomes accomplished:

L2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I was a volunteer of the decoration team and we were to ensure that we decorated the dining hall, assembly to create the right ambiance. We displayed our creativity with the appreciation cards. Not being proficient in art and craft I initially faced difficulty but as my fellow team members guided me I could catch upon and finish the assigned tasks with ease. This made me learn a new skill and develop my interest for the same.

Another challenge we faced was the availability of resources. We had to plan to complete the task efficiently with limited resources. We used fresh flowers to give the place a lively feel. All in all it was an exhilarating experience.

L4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Once we were ready with our area we lent our help to the other groups. We had put in all our time, energy and hard work to ensure that the event could move smoothly and also be a success. Determination is a great element of success. Since all of us were committed towards the main goal of serving the support staff and making them contented with our act of kindness we were able to achieve it.

L5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

The decoration team comprised of 8-10 people. We had taken into consideration ideas of each member and finalized upon the best ones. On the day of  the event we split ourselves into smaller groups so that work could be done better and within time. Since all of us had different skills we could bring up an effective show for the support staff. We worked collaboratively and could easily overcome challenges, bring up better ideas, support each other and gain a sense of accomplishment once the objective would be achieved.

Overall it was a stunning experience where we could be the reason for the joy of someone. Though there were difficulties faced but as said by Joshua J. Marine, “Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”

We had never imagined that we had the ability to make savoury food and get an opportunity to serve to the helping hands of our school. This gesture of kindness towards the support staff made it a memorable morning for us. I was elated to put myself into somebody else’s shoe and gain new experiences of various tasks.
