CAS Trip to Gir.

We as grade 11 students were really excited for our first trip of the year. I was jumping with happiness when I got to know that we were going to Gir to volunteer for this huge project known as “Save Lion by covering well”.  When I told my parents about this project they were instantly ready to send me. We had a very tiring 13 hour journey by bus to Gir, but those 13 hours were spent with laughters and happiness. I even got to know the new students who recently joined our school in grade 11. When we reached there instead of being tired I was ready to face the new challenge of making a metal cover for the wells. We were also given free times to relax ourselves. The food there which was provided was amazing in taste. At night we went for trekking in the jungle and due to the darkness of the forest and many haunting stories, a lot of students burst into tears.

Learning outcomes achieved :

LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

During the trip, I got to know that I have great stamina. I realized it when we came back from the trek I saw my friends who were tried and dying to take rest. I still had a lot of energy left in my body. The impatient behaviour  which I had during the long bus journey was my weakness as I was getting cranky very quickly in the bus. I would like to work on my weakness because I need to have patience in my which will help me in my life. I feel happy that I have realized my weakness because now I can work upon it to become a better person in life.

LO 2-Demonstrate that new challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

There were a zlot of new skills which I learned like welding ,drilling and cutting. Welding and cutting were the most difficult and challenging part because Ii had a fear in my mind of getting hurt so I was not able to my work properly and comfortably. This was the first time I tried some new skill like this. It is important to learn new skills in life because it helps us somewhere or the other in our life. Another challenge was to be efficient and complete the task with perfection. One wrong move could have lead to a flaw in the covers. So, there was a lot of pressure building up when I was helping in Welding and cutting. At the end, it all went good which gave a me a sigh of relief.

LO 5  – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:

We were divided into 2 groups in which we had to work. Certainly my group was very cooperative, responsible and proactive towards the work. So it was really easy for me to work with the group. Working as a team makes the work really easy and we can do it really quickly. The bond should be very strong and every member should have trust on each other the make the task successful.

LO 6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:

The global issue here was the extinction of lions. Some were were getting hunted down and some are falling in the well while hunting at night. We were told that lions used to fall into the well while hunting for animals like deers and eventually get trapped and die. We have a responsibility to save animals who are falling in the well. It is very important to save them because the system life will change if lions are not there. After covering the well it makes me feel extremely proud of myself that I contributed in saving animals.

Overall, this trip taught me many things and helped in my overall development. I was grateful to be a part of this trip by contributing in saving the lions. It helped me increase my patience and also, made me learn various new skills.
