Box Cricket Tournament

A cricket tournament was organised by my friends which was a fundraiser. The event was organised from scratch and they needed volunteers to help them out so I went in. It was a tournament on a turf ground which is quite new to our city Surat so we did expect a lot of participants. I volunteered for any last minute help needed (the day of the event). I did not really know what I had to do since it could be anything as I volunteered to help on the day of the execution. It could be anything from arranging the trophies to score keeping to photography. I was up for the challenge.

Learning outcomes achieved:
L1:
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
As I went to the event, I had nothing to do because there was no need. However, later the organisers came to me and told me they needed a photographer as there was one less on the ground. I had not tried photography professionally though I went to the other photographer and learnt quickly about the basic settings (Eg: ISO, Exposure) and started clicking pictures. Later when I went through the pictures, it came into my notice that I actually took amazing pictures. I never knew I could do photography so well. Talking part in this event helped me realise I am a good at photography and also managing the settings of the camera.

L2:
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
When I volunteered, I did not know what my job would be as I volunteered for any last minute help required on the day of the event. The event took place 2 days and on the first day after some time, it started raining heavily. The players had to continue, however the score keepers and the photographers needed shelter. I got up and stood there with an umbrella for a scorekeeper for about 30 minutes in the rain. It was tough as we had to stand and I was holding an umbrella for the score-keeper. I realised I was very spontaneous to help out when it rained because as soon as it started raining, I got up provided the idea and helped. I was perseverant in making the event a success.

L5:
Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
As mentioned earlier that I was asked to do photography which I was not expecting. The benefit here was that there was a photography team and because I did not know a few things (settings in the camera), I could instantly ask for help from them. It was a huge advantage. It also helped me improve my communication as there were a few instructions I had to pass on to the volunteers on the ground. In a team, people can rely on each and and if things are done as planned, a strong trust and bond is created within the team members. I was working with a new student but we got really close after the tournament as we were working together.

Overall, this event helped me find out skills hidden in me and how spontaneously I react if any help is needed.
