AS- Dance

Dance has always been my interest and as a kid I was inquisitive to learn various dances. Dance is basically moving rhythmically to music following a sequel of steps. As part of my arts special class, I have chosen dance. In dance we not only learn steps upon a song but we explore various dance styles, songs and then choreograph. Dance has a very wide variety but we have limited our learning to Indian folk dances, like garba in Gujarat, bhangra in Punjab, ghoomar in Rajasthan, lavani in Maharashtra are some of the many forms. These dances explicitly exhibit the state’s culture and tradition. To make it more graceful outfits are worn.

Every thing includes strengths and weakness and so does this activity.  I have been able to identify those. My strengths are I can learn the steps easily but I have to develop in perfections of the step and do it with the beat. I am glad to be able to identify my strengths and weaknesses so that i can work accordingly and improve. It is vital to know our strengths and weaknesses as they tell us where we stand now and areas to improve so that we can become better at the activity focused. The thing is, every individual is different and we all function differently based on our personalities. It is important to know yourself and your capacities. It is also important to work on the weakness once identified.  Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, ” Believe in yourself, our strengths grows out of our weakness.” I truly belief in this quote and so have also been working at my weakness. Overcoming this weakness will help me become better at dancing and also in future if I would have to perform somewhere I would be able to believe it.

This is something new so there are challenges but at the same time there were new skills inculcated. The challenges faced were learning the steps and their sequence, identifying and moving to the beats. But gradually I could overcome the challenges. I remember I was given a little bit exposure to this when I was a child but didn’t take it too seriously then. It is important to embrace new challenges as you can grow on your skills. To achieve your potential it is necessary to face challenges rather than being in your comfort zone. Skills that I have found new in myself is flexibility. I feel a sense of accomplishment and pride to know about a skill I had but didn’t explore till now. In future these skills will support me in being active and work to my potential. In learning new skills we open up ways towards opportunities, will influence the way you do things day to day and they will make doing things quicker and easier, saving time, energy and stress.

Perseverance and commitment play a major role.  They both work hand in hand for a person to succeed. They help us stay focused towards our main vision and also help us achieve it. Initially things were harder to balance but gradually as we get used to it they sound easier. To complete this activity I had to stay committed in coming on time for classes and giving my best. There may difficulties that come but I had to overcome those and stay focused upon the aim.

I see myself acquiring the learner profile of being open minded.  I am able to understand and appreciate cultures and traditions, and become open to the perspectives. AS classes have always been fun as we ourselves are involved and together as a team choreograph the song. The activity surely brings a sense of achievement and I can surely apply this in future in events and fests. I take back skills, memories, new forms of dances learnt, steps and importance of dance to express one’s feeling. I wish to promote this activity to the coming generation as this is a platform to express feelings and emotions.
