Mount Abu Trekking (Activity)

For trekking, I went to Mount Abu as a part of our school trip. In the trip, we did many activities like rock climbing, rappelling, cave track search, obstacle course, night trek and boating (Nakki Lake). I wanted to go on this trip because adventurous activities like these had always attracted me. The duration of the trip was four days (23rd December 2018-28th December 2018). The whole tour was organized by Team Wilderness and also 4 members of that team had accompanied us throughout the trip. They had all the knowledge required about trekking.

Learning outcomes achieved:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

  • Trekking had always demanded a person to be agile, have flexibility and have a lot of stamina. I had all those skills which made all the activities easy to learn for me. Knowing my strengths during the trip always helped me maintain my confidence in every activity and this helped me in staying ahead of everyone during the trek.LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
  • All the tasks I had done throughout the trip were challenging. However, I was doing them for the second time but they required a lot of safety precautions, self-confidence, and proper technique. Also, I was doing them after a long time and hence was not able to recall the ways in which they should be done which made the task a bit more challenging. However, the guide instructed me once and  I was able to do all the tasks quite easily and felt great after completing all of them. Doing them for the second time also LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
  • The whole trip was about being committed. We had to wake up early and participating in every activity required commitment. I participated in all the activities and also did some of them twice. I also had to adapt to the cold weather conditions which were new to every one of us. Moreover, I also woke up my roommates every morning. Hence, in spite of having difficulties in doing activities, I didn’t give up and completed all of them.LO5: Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
  • Working collaboratively was an important part when we had to do caving. As I was moving ahead of my friends I guided them and warned them in case anything unusual occurred. Moreover, the guide had also instructed me to help my friends who were not confident about doing the activities. I felt very satisfied after helping them do the activities and understood that working collaboratively can help achieve the ultimate result.

Overall the trip was very well organized. I was able to do all the activities quite easily as well as helped my friends do the same. Doing all the activities successfully and easily made me feel happy and satisfied. I would probably use more specialized pieces of equipment if I would have to do these activities again. I was also able to learn many new activities and also many new things about mountain climbing and caving.
