Gymming!

Being very lean and tall, I decided to join a gym to get fit and build some muscles which would help me maintain my body. Also, it helped me boost my stamina and endurance which improved my Football and Cricket game. I started going to the gym at the beginning of high school and continued for a year. Gymming helped me gain 8 kg of muscles mass. I have had a drastic change in my body build and posture and I have received various appreciations for that too. I started by asking a trainer to make a plan for me that I will follow every week. The trainer decided to allocate each day for a particular body part and 2 days for cardio where I was expected to burn calories. The learning outcomes I covered in this activity are:-

LO1:-  Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

During the initial stages of joining the gym, I identified that I possessed a decent level of stamina and I could pull off 10 minutes run easily. However, my arms were considerably very weak and I had my right arm stronger than my left. Therefore, I consulted my trainer and he helped me figure a solution. He planned more workout for my arms and reduced cardio to only one day. Along with this, he also helped me regain the strength of my left arm and matching it with my right by giving me some balancing exercises and asking me to lift more weight from the left arm compared to the right one. It took me 3 months, but, eventually, I managed to get the strength in my arms equal.

LO2:- Demonstrate that challenges that have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Doing intense workout caused a lot of pain in my muscles which led to negative implications on other academic and school activities. I could barely move my body once I came back from the gym in the earlier stages and it got difficult for me to manage the pain. There were days where I could not even wake up on time due to the tiredness and pain and I missed my school for that too. However, due to this challenge, I developed the quality of withstanding pain and intense workout and slowly, I could bear the pain as my muscles developed. I also developed my self-management skills along the process as I managed the pain of gymming and the stress of studies at a go, which I believe, is very important for a student.

LO4:- Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences

After 6 months of joining the gym, I realized that the number of submissions were increasing and there were deadlines every week which demanded me to give more time towards my academics. Along with that, I also joined cricket coaching in between as I had a tournament I had to attend in the same year. All this combined, it got very difficult for me to spare time for gymming. I had a lot of thoughts of dropping gymming for a month or so to take a break, however, I decided I will brainstorm and somehow find a way out of this too because once I take a break, it would be very difficult to get back on track. Thus, I decided to go to the gym early morning before school starts so that I could study in the evenings.
