Whakanui

Whakanui or celebration: a scenario like the royal wedding was an event held in the school itself, it was based on our subject language and literature. It was a fun way of learning our topic “language in cultural context”. There were 7 teams our group was assigned the Middle East. For the event, I had designed the wedding card and the menu of the given region which was middle east also I helped in the overall decoration which was done on the event day. Whakanui personally helped me a lot in learning about this new culture and their tradition. The extensive research done about the event added a lot to my knowledge of how royal wedding looks like the number of dishes, the royal logo in the card and decoration was of weddings of Prince Rashid bin El Hassan, and the princess Zeina Shaban from Jordan, and Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Suhail bin Ahmed bin Juma Al Maktoum from Dubai.

The event was only for one day, students and teachers were invited to visit. Hence, presentation and communication skills were put into work. The important aspect was language differences and its impact on the text (Poster, card, menu, Instagram post, etc.) LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth
A class is allocated to each royal famil this is our group’s decoration and setup.
I am already aware of my potential in arts so I choose to design invites and menu as well as learned time management and teamwork because making the post for the event and helping other team members who lack the skill even asking for help in areas like language. So during the event, I developed new skills also it gave me a broader picture as to how different text types can be used in different context especially cultural context as the event suggest. Getting to a new language and understanding the future scope of learning. LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. As the culture of the middle east was very new to me understanding the food and choosing from so many varieties and creating the wedding card was a challenge that had been taken up by me. Especially figuring out the language by seeking help and developing communication with people who know the language. I tried my level best to make it as creative as I could. Developing research skills by digging deep in the culture to find about the most authentic dishes of the given region. LO 3:  Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience There was a lot of work to be completed in a short span of time with other submissions lined up. For the start, we considered who has what strengths and divided the work accordingly. We started giving deadlines and made a folder so that the task is completed and submitted on time. The event was on 10th January, on this date we decided to come early so that we can create an atmosphere of the wedding. Organized planning helped us put up a successful event. LO4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experience I was committed to the event as I completed all the work on time an did not miss any deadlines also I attended all the early in meetings which were kept by the Team Leader. I worked wholeheartedly throughout the event and made it as flawless as I could. Also commitment towards the responsibility of the team helping each other and getting all work done being well planned.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. Overall the event made me use my skills as well as develop new skills. It was an amazing learning experience. All and all the whole event was very engaging for me. I thought I was the on who was the leading group because in the first half I was not able to explain properly but did my work and took in charge and secondly I was speaking during the group meeting. Now that I experienced real teamwork I feel like working in a team is more important because It helps to get the best out of you. After completion of the event, the winning team was announced and we got on the 3rd place and which was satisfying. I learned to help each other so that we could give our best. My groups greatest achievement was the learning experience we gained it helped us relate to the curriculum and also made us prepared for coursework and FOA. I learned to help each other so that we could give our best.
