PS – Basketball

Basketball is a new and exciting sport for me. I have never played basketball before and have never even tried to learn it until this year. I play a different sport called Ultimate frisbee every year until I decided to try basketball this year. Every Fountainhead school student has to pick a sport every year which he/she was to play for the rest of the year under the coach’s training. Choosing basketball to help me evolve as a person, and I learned that I could play different sports if I make an effort to learn them. LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth. As being a new sport to me, I find it quite rigorous as it includes dribbling, passing, and shooting while the other team is in defense. My strengths are that I can be quick, and I have enough stamina. My weaknesses include a lack of rules, knowledge, and techniques & strategies. I’m happy that I was able to find my strengths and weaknesses so that I can improve according to it. It is essential to know our strengths and weaknesses as they reveal where we stand now and enables us to identify the areas of improvement so we can turn out to be better. Each individual is extraordinary in their way, so it is essential to determine their abilities. One the weaknesses are identified it is equally important to work on it. LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. The major challenge I faced was doing layups, no matter how many numbers of time I practice, I was unable to so the layup. Also, when there are people taller than me, it was nearly impossible for me to score a basket, I needed to fake them to get the score. Learning new techniques and strategies and then implementing those in the game was a big task for me. Being a beginner, everyone played better than me, and thus the competition between players was more and much tricky. But then I managed to overcome my challenges by working hard on my weaknesses. No matter what, I always try to make sure that I put forward 100% to get the best of results in all the tasks I perform. LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. As I said earlier that I’m a beginner, I have to do the basic drills while everyone played a match which made me feel left out and I did not attend one class because of it. But then I realized that they played because they knew the basics and I was still a beginner. I knew I had to commit to myself if I wanted to learn the game, so I did. I stayed committed to the sport and showed perseverance to learn and improve in this sport. Being a sports peron I have always been regular with my training and workout sessions which helped me stay fitter. Additionally, improving my skills to become a better player is what thrives me keep on playing the game. Commitment helped in achieving the goal faster and also to stay focused. LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. Each person in the team is equally important and has a different take on things. Each person has distinct strengths; We so could always learn from each other. Collaboration is an essential part of playing basketball as it is a team sport. The game is only won when every member plays with synergy. Each member’s strengths combine to form the team’s strength, which helps in reaching the aim. In all this was fun experience and I developed a new skill. It also helped me mange my time due to which I can practice more often during week days.
