FSMUN

FSMUN is a MUN hosted by Fountainhead School every year. It is an entirely student-led event during which students develop multifaceted skills like leadership, delegation, responsibility, debating, negotiating, collaborating, to name a few. There were a number of teams in which all of us were working, these were the backbone to the MUN since it helped to organize and plan everything from before. There were numerous teams such as decoration, logistics, transportation, food, and accommodation to name a few. I was part of the decoration team. These are platforms to discuss global issues and involves the development of many skills.

The learning outcomes accomplished are:

L1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I understood the idea of the event when the briefing was done.  It was evident that I would have to work in a group. Thus I decided to be open-minded, adjustable and respect ideas of each member of my group. We started with brainstorming ideas as to how the event and the decor with respect to the theme could be made appealing. Initially, I had basic ideas about how the decorations have to made. As we progressed, and when new things came I would quickly develop curiosity in learning it through my companions or through the internet. This way I could develop my knowledge of decor ideas and learn how to make those also.  My interest to work in a team and desire to learn arts became my strength through which I could add value to my team.  As far as my weaknesses, I had to work on my management skills, which I did constantly to improve by prioritizing my work.

L2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Though it was a fun and entertaining task, there were challenges that we faced. Not being proficient in art and craft I initially faced difficulty but as my fellow team members guided me I could catch up on and finish the assigned tasks with ease. This made me learn a new skill and develop my interest in the same. Another challenge we faced was the availability of resources. We had to plan to complete the task efficiently with limited resources. All in all, it was an exhilarating experience.

L4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Once we were ready with our decorations we lent our help to the other groups, who were lacking behind in doing their parts. We had put in all our time, energy and hard work to ensure that the event is a success. Determination is a great element of success. Since all of us were committed towards the main goal of the MUN we were able to bring a bright and colorful show. We could have opted to make basic decor but to highlight the event, the decor had to stand out, thus we were determined to create the elegant decorations.

L5: Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working in a team is certainly not a troublesome job for me. We were a group of 10-12 people where we had to handle the decorations of the committee rooms, socials, photobooths, opening, and closing ceremony hall. Since we had a team of 10-12 people, we decided to further divide ourselves according to the work and skill expertise, so that it could be completed before time as well as creatively. It is essential to work cooperatively for a group where individuals with various interests are set to come up with the best ideas that can be combined to bring out an outstanding show. This also enhances our skills in solving problems in the group and cooperating with people with different thoughts and interests.

Through this whole event, I was able to develop the learner profiles: Communicator and Open-minded. Communicator, as I had to communicate with various members and teachers as a part of the decor team. Secondly open-minded, since we worked in a group, we made sure to listen to each one’s ideas and then come to a final decision. Though there were disputes, we were able to respect each other’s views and then come up with beautiful decor for the event.

The reason I chose to take this opportunity is that I was interested to showcase my skills to help the FSMUN team to make decorations and develop new ones. I had most of the necessary skills to lead this to a successful event. On the day when I had finished my work, I had an opportunity to observe the conferences going on. This helped me to develop a sense of how MUN’s work and could understand its importance. Inclusive of all the ups and downs faced it was a fun and illuminating experience.
