Every year, our school organises Service Sessions where students from government school comes in our school for 6 consecutive Saturdays and gain different aspects of knowledge and learn different activities. The aim for such service is to give those students to develop themselves and to give them things that aren’t available to them. Since I have been playing basketball since 3 years, I chose to pass my skills and knowledge to them which includes controlling, dribbling and shooting. At last I wanted such children to learn and gain something out of it, they should have fun and gain complete benefit of the time they invest during this learning, which might have helped them in the future.
Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
We were given the option to choose our preferred activity and start with planning and how will you execute the plan. Since we weren’t ready with the plan on the first session it resulted in chaos, children were roaming here and there with the ball and no one was listening to what instructions were given. Hence it became necessary to organize yourself before we initiate the plan forward. Hence we scheduled a plan for the next 5 Saturdays. Hence planning always plays an important role while conducting of such events and activities. Putting efforts to come for all the saturday and teaching children was a tough job however I was committed to what I had planned to do and hence it helped to carry away the activity till the end.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
There was a huge team with 7th to 12th standard students who had volunteered. There was going to be different ideas and ways of teaching basketball to the children. Since I was good in teaching, we divided our work according to the best skills each had, which made it easier to work in the group as well as better for the children to learn the best of what they could have form one only. Having a big team helped to bring out the enthusiasm and cheered the children to play so that they don’t get bored. Working collaboratively also helps by giving our works and make things work easier, faster and more effective.
Learning Outcome 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Providing education and activities to poor children in India is an issue there are more than 37% of Adults who are illiterate in India.Not providing with primary education leads to poverty. India being one of the fastest growing countries requires education which starts from primarily. Hence our school took such initiative to provide such education to children who can’t afford to learn things in their schools. And this would not only help the students to gain knowledge but also help to beat poverty. Sooner or later their education and sports activities will help them to get a job and earn for their families.
Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We let the communication and behavior being very friendly to the children so that it helped them to learn better and happily.We gave our heart and soul during the planning and execution , we were having an option of just doing it for the sake of doing it. However we did really meant to make a positive impact and influence on the children so that they can gain something significant out of us. The words action were used and presented in such a way that children would show their enthusiasm and excitement towards learning things. Which made me feel very happy about helping such kids. I was always excited to teach and waited for the right opportunity. I feel very blessed teaching and providing and sharing my skills and knowledge to them.
