FS CUP (CAS PROJECT)

FS CUP is an interschool sports competition held in fountainhead every year. This competition includes sports like basketball, football, table tennis, skating, karate, taekwondo, handball, athletics and more. As a lot of schools are invited to this competition, a lot of arrangements are required to be done. As 2 people can not handle all the departments we decided to make organizing committee for all other works. fist step of making this committee was of sending forms for the responsibility they wanted to take up. for example-

1. Managing committee- Candidate having good communication skills have a good awareness about the event surroundings, facilities and arrangements can manage the crowd.
2. Photography- We require passionate photographers who have The Eye for good moments. Candidate must be having his/her Camera and related resources
3. Certificate writing- (This time we are only giving Merit Certificate)- Candidates having a passion to write and are blessed with Creative Handwriting

Once we got the final responses we decided to make groups out of them with the help of our CAS supervisor and explain all the work that had to be done before the event and on the day of the event. We had a team of a total of 30 students who volunteered for FS CUP. We then conducted early in meetings to clear all the expectations and work that had to be done by all the volunteers on the day of the event and also before the event. As the event was conducted on 4 Saturdays we made sure that every volunteer gets an opportunity to participate and help us. Before every event began we use to distribute the responsibilities to the volunteers. This way we could know if the volunteers are present or not. We also use to make sure that every group has enough members to do the work and run the event smoothly. We also reached out to underprivileged students about how professional sports are carried out and also provided them with an opportunity to participate in any sport they can. Through this, they got an opportunity to know more about every sport and how it is played. As they were underprivileged they were not invited in other inter-school competitions in Surat. the students belonged to HIMS

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth.
As I was one of the main organizers for this event I had a lot of responsibilities that I had to take care of, which helped me identify my leadership skills as I have never organized an event on such big scale. At first, I thought I will not be able to have so much work at once, but as time passed I was confident and was able to lead the organizing committee.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenge has been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

Leading a team of volunteers and being patient all over the event was a challenge for me. As I had never led a team it was difficult at first. On the other hand, as I am a little short tempered I had to control myself throughout the event and had to Handle a lot of things happening at the same time. I undertook the challenges and faced them. I tried to be as calm as I could in every difficult situation. Through this, I was able to handle the team and my temper as well. As being one of the senior players on the football team was again a challenge for me. I knew some of my weaknesses and also tried to work on them. For example, as I knew I needed to work on shooting skills I took up the challenge and attended some early inn so that I could perform better on the day of competition. This did help me as my shoots were better than before for the game

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate a CAS plan.

Planning the whole event as students seemed to be a little tough at the beginning. But, as the work got distributed into different things the workload seemed to be less than before. As we worked in teams we could make the event a success.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

As we had 3-4 sports on every Saturday at different venues 2 of us couldn’t work the whole event. As soon as the teams were made the work got distributed and became easy for all of us. We all worked together and put our hundred percent in the event. We all supported each other in difficult situations which made us synergize more. As all the students were from different grades it seemed a little difficult to conversate with them at first but as the time passed by it became easy to talk to everyone and also work with them. As I was also representing the school team in under -17 football girls category we as a team had to collaborate to win the tournament. As we worked together and helped each other out in difficult situations we could perform better than ever and win this title for our school and all of us. Winning and organizing the tournament would not have been possible with working together as a team and helping each other out.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

As we invited underprivileged children from other schools who were keen to know more about sports and how they officially are carried out which was not possible for them because of the lack of faculty and support. Due to this one of my friends and I decided to help them know more about this and also talk to them about this. We also provided them with an opportunity of competing with other schools and know more about the spirits they were interested in. As most of them were younger than us we decided to talk to them in a friendly environment rather than a formal one. Through this, we could know more about their experience and how they felt about the tournament. Reet and I were happy to know that they had fun and also learned a lot about sports.

LO 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

As usage and bringing phone was only allowed for my friend and me on all the 4 saturdays the coaches did have blind trust on us for not using them for anything other thing but work. I made sure that I use my time on the phone only for good. There were times when I was tempted to use social media but I controlled myself for that.  As football is a sport with physical contact I made sure that I don’t hurt any of my opponents on purpose and also try my best to not break any rules. Throughout the tournament, I made sure that I keep sportsmanship and play fare. I did hurt some of the opponents (not severely) but not on purpose and also apologized at the end of the game and made sure they get the help needed (just in case)

Organizing this tournament has taught me a lot of things and also provided with an opportunity to know more about my weaknesses and my strength. In future, if I get such a change again I will definitely take up the responsibility without any hesitation.
