Students from different government schools come to attend various Sessions conducted by the students of Fountainhead school itself. The activities provided are Frisbee, Basketball, Dance, Visual Arts, Cooking, etc. As student-teacher we have an option to teach any one of the activities from above. My passion was Visual Art and I decided to opt for the same. My aim was to pass the knowledge and skills of visual arts which I pursue to those who don’t get an opportunity to know the same.
During the session we had many challenges which we had to overcome.
1) As the students were from a government school, their native language was Gujarati and neither I or any of my group member knew how to converse in Gujarati. We tried to communicate in Hindi, however most of them wouldn’t grasp what we are trying to tell. This caused them to loose interest in the session. So to prevent this, we took help of a teacher who was a fluent speaker in Gujarati. She acted like a translator between us and the students. This made it much easier to conduct the session and also fun and engaging for the students as well as for us.

2) The sessions were not only for grade 11 students but also for students of younger grades from 7-9. There were many students with whom I didn’t have much contact and coordinating with them was quite difficult. Each of us had a different plan in mind for the session and were eager to execute it. None of us were ready to listen to each other. This caused conflicts within us and also we weren’t able to reach to any mutual consensus. But then I took up the leadership and tried to think about the solution with peace in mind. After a analysing and listening to all perspectives I have a solution of dividing the students into groups of 3-4 students. This way we were able to execute our ideas and neither had any conflicts.

3) There was a session in which there were only 6-7 students and we were 4-5 teachers to conduct the session. Due to the quantity of the students, we were demotivated to conduct the session. As each of us weren’t getting enough chance to teach the students and so we lost interest in conducting it.

4) The sessions were conducted on 6 consecutive Saturday’s where, we students, had a holiday. That was the time where I used to self study and do something extra. Bring a weekend we would get a lot of home work which I used to do on Saturdays. However, now we had to go to school on the Saturdays due to which a lot of my work would left out. Initially I used to procrastinate my work but after some sessions, I learned to manage time and complete my work on time.

These were the challenges which I faced during the sessions and with a peaceful mind, I solved all of them with a win- win solution.

The bet part of the service session was to look up the enthusiastic and joyful faces of the students who were always ready to learn something new. Even if I don’t remember then, I am assured that they will remember me for lifetime as we taught them something which they never thought of. While going back to the school, many students waved me goodbye and I didn’t knew who they were and neither had the clue if I had taught them or not.

Even though there were many challenges while conducting the session but there were many take always which I will remember for life time.
