Monsoon Musings

This was a student-led literary event organized by Grade-11. This event gave a platform to the all the stakeholders of the school to come and showcase their talents in terms of poetry. So different people came and read out their own poem written in any language. Apart from this there was a Seva Cafe, where we had served delicious food to the guests. Along with this, there was an art stall, where students from different grades had pit up their artworks for display. We had kept donation boxes at many places where the audience were free to donate any amount of money for the event, either it being the poetry event, Seva Cafe or Art Stalls. The main intention of this event was to raise awareness of poetry and literature and also to raise funds which was to be donated to an organization.

My role in this event was as a helper in the decor team. This included to make all the decoration required for the event and also help in getting more amount of artworks to be displayed in the event.

I was quite excited for this event, as it was the first time I was elected for the same. Being creative, I did not face any issues with the task provided to me by my HOD’s, and I was also able to finish all my task on time. However, working with the other members of the group was a difficult task for me as I wasn’t very comfortable with them. We used to have a lot of fights, due to clashing of ideas or for the quality and quantity of work produced by my other group members. I also remember that we did have a fight just the previous day before the event. And this would really stress me up and I would easily loose my temper. However, soon I realized that loosing my temper would not give me any solution, instead I tried to first calm my self down and then with the help of my HOD, would try to find a win-win solution for this problem.

Along with this, another issue which we faced was resources. According to our planning, we required some resources which  weren’t available in the school or were not up to the mark. Due to this we had to make those materials such as flowers, which consumed a lot of our time and energy. This caused a lot of things to get delayed. Also I was traveling for a week during that time, which again caused a issues as the number of people working in the group decreased and increased the amount of work to be done by each person. However, with a back up plan, we were able to overcome this challenge also.

Overall, it indeed was a great event. It taught me how to work with people with whom I am not comfortable with. It taught me how to stay calm. And it also taught me the importance of a back up plan and working with a team.
