Monsoon Musings

Monsoon Musings is a student-led event where writers are given a platform to share their works (poems and tales) and ideas. We were acknowledged to be a part of the very first edition of Monsoon musings that took place on 2nd September 2018 at Fountainhead school. Students, teachers and parents were invited to listen to the poems, as well as enjoy the Art Exhibition and Seva Cafe. Various artworks had been displayed and a few were kept on sale as well. Whereas, in Seva, cafe food was served to the audience and they were required to donate any amount of money in the donation boxes. All the funds collected were donated to UNICEF. I was a part of the art exhibition and Seva Cafe. I gave a few painting for the exhibition, that was kept for sale and made Brownies for Seva Cafe with a few students. I was even a part of the decoration committee. We were given the task to decorate the entire event.

Learning Outcome achieved:

LO1:  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Since I am good at arts, it wasn’t difficult for me to make 3-4 paintings in less time. I had kept all my paintings at the sale, which in a way was a contribution to the donations. This even helped me while decorating the event. I had many ideas which were pretty good and helpful. One of my weakness was that I was getting annoyed frequently when my teammates were not working seriously. My annoyance sometimes turned into angry, which reflected a bad behaviour. I could have been more patient and enjoyed the event.

LO2:  Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I had always been intrigued towards cooking. Though I have never cooked in my life, I thought of taking this up as a challenge and moving out of my comfort zone. So, we met up at a friend’s place to prepare 100 pieces of brownies in a day. With less time, we all gave our best. At the end of the day, my hands were covered in bandages as I had hurt myself while opening cans. With much effort, we managed to make delicious brownies. Our efforts were reflected when we heard people appreciating our brownies.

LO5:  Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working in a team, does make our task easier and divide our workload. We had a huge team for decoration, which helped us in collecting more ideas. The execution of the ideas and finalising it was a little difficult, by everyone came along eventually. Even our work was made easier while we were making brownies. We had divided out work and used our time efficiently.

LO7:  Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

We had to abide by our school policy, which restricted many food items from our list. So, we came up with a decision of homemade brownies, which went according to the policy given by our teachers. Another choice we had to make was less wastage of resources, both in food and decoration. We had to save food, paper and other resources and make eco-friendly decisions.

Overall, this event was a success due to every individual’s hard work and commitment. It made me try cooking for the first time, which turned out to be very productive and good. Stepping out of my comfort zone was challenging yet made me develop a few skills. We had many ups and downs but at the end of the day, a part of us was tired, while the other one was happy to be contributing in the donations. We had along every step of the way which made it a great experience.
