Kalakriti arts competition was held in our school on 22nd December 2018 in which various schools had come to participate and one of them was our schools. We had participated in the drama category under the 10-12th category. We had been doing drama in school for several years but this was the first time we were participating in the inter school competition. I had participated in the drama category with one other girl. We both were doing a two act play, we had been rehearsing for the same since a long time. The day finally came and our performance was second last. At first I was little nervous but then finally everything turned out to be good.
The learning outcomes achieved are as follows:-
LO1- I recognised my strengths and weaknesses during this event. I understood that although I am pretty confident about performing i have a bit of stage fright and that day i could work upon it by performing well despite of having the fright. While we were rehearsing for the competition there were some scenes where I could not convey my emotions to the audience or I could not get the kind of expression that I needed but that did not demotivate or dishearten me that encouraged me to work hard and get the kind of expressions required and make the play a success.
LO2- Talking about the challenges faced there were many, to name a few; firstly we used to come early for the practice so there were a lot of other things that were coming up along with the play so it was difficult for me to manage the practice along with all those things and there were times when i had to choose between 2 things namely the play and other events for which i had to come early. Secondly during the composition of play there were also a lot of arguments on the character allocations but at the end of the day we sorted all that out and worked as a team.
LO4- First when we heard about this event we wanted to participate in it but we were unable to find a good and string script but then when we finally found i it we decided that no matter what happens we were going to participate in the competition. We used to come early and practice the play and showed the commitment towards the event.
LO5- I was not the only one who was performing in the play I had one other person performing with me so it was very important for us to work collaboratively. We tried our best that we sync with each other and accept each other as we are so that we could work together for the play. There were times when we used to forget our lines in those times we used to help each other out by giving them hints.
LO7- Originally we required 3 characters in the play but despite of finding also we could not get anybody to do it although the play looked incomplete without it but since there wasn’t enough time left we decided to manage without the third character and do the play anyway.
All in all there were a lot of things that i learnt and that i could takeaway. One of them was management of crisis and dealing with it. I could also gain confidence of performing a play on stage and beside managing things when everything comes together and deciding the priorities.
