Our school had organized a trip to Sasan Gir Forest which is located in Gujarat. The rationale behind going to Gir was to to save endangered wildlife for example Asiatic Lions by covering the well. I had volunteered for this project wherein my role was to make metal covers which could cover the wells and help to save the animals to fall in wells.
Learning outcomes I achieved are:-
LO2-Demonstrate that new challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
While we all had to make fence to cover the well, using metal and had to wend it. I was doing Wending for the 1st time which I found difficult. There were instruction and safety measure that has to been followed which were quite hard to perform. We had to take care of our eyes the most because it was very sensitive to the spark that came out of the wending machine. I first tried welding with the expert and then tried to do it alone as I got the steps to do it.
LO4- Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
In the start of the trip , there were 2 teams which was made so that student actively participate and it becomes interesting. All of the team mates were very enthusiastic about the work and showed commitment towards working. We thought that we will try to complete more amount of work on the 1st day and in the 2nd day would go smoothly. Everyone were committed and completed there task on time.
LO5- – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
It was quite easy for all of us because we worked as a team and could complete the task quickly. There were some disputes too which had been solved after some discussion but at the end the result was good. Working as a team had help us to utilize the time and make good cover for the wells too.
LO6- Engagement with issues of global significance.
Asiatic lions being one of the endangered species ,we all as human should take a step to save them. Gir having the most Asiatic lions , has helped us to save the lion by covering the well. Saving lions is a global significance. So while hunting the lions and other wildlife doesn’t die by falling in well. In this trip, we made metal cover which would not let the lions fall down and therefore the animals would be safe and population would be more.
To conclude , our aim ‘ save Asiatic lions by covering well’ had been successfully achieved and could cover the well with all hard work and enthusiasm with the help of everyone in the team. This trip didn’t only include covering the wells but night treks which was quite engrossing and made me know more about nature which interested me a lot and was a fun trip.
