My friend and I have a lot of interest in arts and we wanted to pass on the learning to others. Eventually, we thought we will conduct the workshop for students in our school. but later we realized that maybe doing it for students who might not have access to the resources required or a guide for them will make more sense, than doing it just for those people who are going to learn it anyways. Our main objective was to give information to the students about the elements of art like Line, Shapes, Colour, Texture, Value etc. We planned a few activities that would be fun for them to do and which will also have some learning it to it.
LO 1:- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
We identify our strengths as liking arts and having enough basic knowledge which could be passed on to other people. The weakness that I faced was not being able to communicate with the kids due to which I not being able to understand what they were saying. Also, even the students were a bit shy while talking to us. They would not tell us what they did not understand and if they were having a problem. Even my nature being shy made it more hard for me to communicate with those kids. I have realised that I will have to grow out of my shy nature as it will help me in the future while talking to new faces.
LO 3:-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
The planning for the complete event was done by me. I faced many issues in finalizing what to do and what not to. The main problem I faced was finalizing the number to students and the date on which the event was supposed to happen. Due to the delay of these decisions and being able to find a suitable date I thought of withdrawing from the activity. But my other partner’s encouraging me, again and again, I did not drop the activity. It was hard for me to manage between everything and adding on more task for my to-do list, but in the end, we pulled it off. Planning an event like this will definitely help me understand what all things need to be done to carry out an event.
LO 5:-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working in the team did help me a lot, as I was not able to manage my time to work with a partner. I have divided the tasks also but I did start having a negative approach towards the event. My partner helped me to gain a positive attitude back. If my teammates were not there I might have quit from the event, they made me realise that the smile on every face that also counts. During this activity, I had a big conflict with my friends when we were managing the things and how to execute the event flow. Generally, never happened between us but somehow I resolve those conflicts. This helps me understand how important it is to work with some people and how to be patient in a certain situation. I also understand that sometimes those people can also help you out of your problems.
LO 6:-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
We thought of doing this with the aim of teaching students the basic of arts. We changed our target students from the kids in our school to the kids in a Government school, because they might not be having the required art materials and also they might not have someone to teach art to them as the stream of arts have been removed from many schools. I strongly believe that arts should be considered as a subject. Teaching a bunch of 20 students what are the principles of art is maybe a small step towards the idea but it is a start to something. We also tried our best to make these activities as fun as possible by adding physical games with arts.
LO 7:-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We did think of withdrawing from the event but we have taken all the required permissions from both the schools, so dropping out of the event will not be an appropriate option. We also made sure that we teach them all the things we plan and not bail out just because the students are not enjoying the event.
The event ended up being fun for me. Even if on one day we were not happy about the kind of reaction that we received from the kids while the other day was amazing as the kids enjoyed it and so did we. I was feeling shy at first when I had to talk to the teachers and give instructions to the students but soon I started talking with them. It also helped me understand what are the necessities of planning an event.
