Art For Everyone was an event organized by 3 friends of mine were the children of a rural area of Surat where given a chance to embrace their creativity and a platform to give status to their work and test their drawing and painting skills of a government school. I took the initiative of helping them set up and teach and assist the children in drawing and painting. The event was for 2 Saturdays a month. One Saturday was for brainstorming and imagination and testing it out on paper and the other was a competition day. The organizers had a brilliant idea for using the unused or no longer being used materials like pencil shades, paint brushes, paints and pencils which can be put to good use by these kids for which our grade students helped them by donating those materials. I had contributed a few paints and brushes which
I no longer used and by this, the students of government school try and learn something new which makes themselves happy and encouraged.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
A challenge which I accepted was teaching and helping those kids basic drawing and scenery (which majority of people draw in their childhood ) but then I realised that many of them didn’t quite know how to do it and some of them got procrastinated while others where misusing and playing with the paints as they didn’t know the technique to use those things so I showed them the correct way and showed them a live demo of it for better understanding and while doing so I realized my shadowed talent which I didn’t practice in a long time due to studies, so I felt happy about it and and a spark regenerated in me again as I had found my inspiration.
LO 4:- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience-
while teaching them there had to be a great deal of patience, politeness needed to make anybody learn as care and love is the fastest route to one’s heart which was only possible due to the dedication, commitment, and strong will. We were supposed to reach there around 8 in the morning was also a challenge as on Saturday everybody wants to sleep and take a break from their hectic schedules but due to the event, I had to wake my parents and car helper to help me reach which can also be considered as a challenge.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
From childhood, I have been fascinated with art and craft and this event gave me an opportunity to regenerate a spark of it as mentioned above as I had taken a long break from it due busy school schedules. handling alone so many kids won’t be possible if there wasn’t a team to back me up, we worked cooperatively without any fuss which was the best part as everybody understood each other better and knew what had to be done. it was easy to pass papers and materials and assist majoritarian personally to many of them.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
As watercolours were involved so a good quantity of water was required to cater all the children and when asked they had brought fresh water which was a concern to think about and even papers were being used which can’t be wasted so all along we had to keep in mind that nothing gets wasted or misused.
In the end, I realized that we should know how to use the resources available more efficiently and wisely to the fullest taking care of our surroundings and natural resources as well. this event gave me such satisfaction that I was of some help to those government school children who don’t get the privilege to study in our school and my knowledge of things is passing to other generation.
