Art is for everyone was an event which aimed to teach visual arts to the unprivileged children. We mainly focused on teaching coloring, drawing and painting. I volunteered there as a helper and a photographer. As a volunteer, I helped the children and also taught them how to color and how to paint with watercolors. I also donated my old watercolors and pencils for the event. The event was divided into two sessions, in the first session, we taught the children how to draw, colour and paint and the other was a month later which was a drawing competition. I was really impressed when I saw the progress of those kids in just one month.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
One of the challenges we faced was that there were very few volunteers and most of them did not know well how to draw and paint. As it was an art event it was very important for the volunteers to divide the workload as manage a lot of children. Later, we worked as a group and according to our skills we taught children arts. As I did not know much about drawing I took help from a friend of mine and meanwhile during the event I even learned a few techniques from my friends and improved more at drawing.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
I am very fond of drawing and painting. I have been painting since a very young age and from the time I have even learned a few techniques and discovered new skills within me. Using my experience and learning I taught the children from the government school how to colour and paint. I am particularly not very good at drawing, a few of my friends knew drawing very well so we worked together to help teach those children as much as we can. That is one of the main reasons why I like working together, according to skills we can share the workload and we can also learn new skills and techniques from others.
Overall, I really enjoyed the event and it was a very nice experience for me as I got to teach young children about art an as well as I learned a few things too. I would be expecting more events like these and I thank my friend Smit Sutariya and Harit Khadepaw for organizing the event and providing us with this opportunity.
