I had volunteered in a project called ‘Art for everyone’, where a group of students of my age visited a government school to teach art skills to the children there. We conducted two sessions in the primary government school, in the first session we taught art skills to the children according to their age. And in the second session, we organized a competition. Our aim was to make the students do some paintings, so the people who have never done it could experience it. And they could also learn to appreciate arts, which is not a part of their academics in their school.
LO 1: identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth.
My strength was that I knew the art skills and I was able to teach the children the basic art skills which they should know. According to me, I think that somewhere my weakness was that I was not able to handle a lot of children at a time. So, organizing myself is the area where I need to work upon. I feel good that I am aware of my strength and weakness, and I should know it because then I could Make effective use of time and work on my weakness and improve further on my strength.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
It was not very difficult for me to work with others as all of my teammates were familiar to me and I was also interested in the work I was doing. But explaining the children whom I was teaching was not as easy because they were younger to me and it took time for them to understand. It was very important to work collaboratively with my other teammates because we had to be productive as we had aimed to help everyone so that no one was left untaught. And our teamwork and dedication had helped us to teach everyone successfully.
Conclusion
I was a good communicator while the activity, as I was required to teach the children and for that, I needed to communicate well with them. I was also open-minded because I had to teach and communicate with all the children present them no matter what age, sex and from which background he/she belonged to. This activity had benefited others because we had taught the art skills to the children. It was very surprising for me to know that some students there were able to do amazing artworks and that too with very little practice. I was really very happy to see the students completing their artwork. From this activity, I learned how to teach different people of different age group so in a way in which they could understand the best.
