Night Out in school (Creativity/Activity/Service)

Just like every year this year, our school had organized a night out and  I was appointed as the event coordinator. Just like every year, the night out consisted of a scavenger hunt followed by the DJ and night tournament (cricket, basketball, frisbee, and football). This event helps the students of the school explore and live in the school for a night and enjoy with their friends. As being the event coordinator I had to look after the progress and help the organizers of the scavenger hunt and the night tournament. Moreover, I had to also make the flow of the events and look after the materials required.

Learning outcomes achieved:

LO1: Identify own strengths and areas of growth

  • As being an event coordinator the main strength required was to have good leadership and team building skills. I was not good with being a leader but as the deadlines approached I helped my partners and met the deadlines. Moreover, team building skills helped me do my work productively and also helped me in completing the tasks assigned on time.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
  • As being the event coordinator I had to assign people the work as well as coordinate with the concerned sirs and teachers and let them know the progress. Moreover, I had also helped in making the teams, clues, etc for the night out. All of this was a challenge because I had not done anything like this before. However, it felt great in being the event coordinator of one of the most favorite event for the students. These management skills would be very important for me in the near future because in the real world I would have to meet the deadlines and also submit the tasks assigned.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

  • All of us including the students and teachers had started meeting and discussing the night out one month prior to the event. Also, everyone concerned was very responsible which helped us in planning the night out quite well. Everything was perfect and on time.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

  • For planning about the night out I had to come early to school for almost half of the month which was a commitment in itself. Also, I had to work in my free slots. Because of this, I had to manage all my work and submissions at home which required a lot of commitment.
  • LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
I always enjoy working in a team. For this event, we had divided ourselves into groups of 2 (2 people for night tournament and 2 for the scavenger hunt). The 2 groups respectively informed me their progress and I informed that to the concerned sirs and teachers. Moreover, as being the organizer I had also helped the groups to make teams and clues for the treasure hunt.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

  • We were strictly instructed not to disclose the clues and the answers of the scavenger hunt to any students and that’s when our ethics came into the picture. I did not disclose any clue or answer to any of my friends to keep the spirit of the game alive.

Overall the event was well organized and every one of us enjoyed a lot in playing the scavenger hunt and the night tournament. This event was a great success for all of us. The learning outcome achieved in this project would be “Thinkers” as I had to think creatively (while making clues and teams) and solve complex problems and make logical decisions. My teacher was proud of me and as a result, rewarded me with a green flag. At the end of the event, I was so happy that everything went as per the plan and there were no problems reported. From organizing the night out I had improved my leadership and time-management skills which would help me in organizing events in the future.
