Gymming

I am the type of person who is very much concerned about his/her physical fitness. However, in grade-11 and grade-12, it was obvious that I will get less exposure to physical activities in the school as more time would be devoted to academics. Hence, I decided to join a gym which would help me get better physically. I decided to regularly go to the gym (6 days a week) and I was very much successful in that. The change in my physique was very much visible. I started getting numerous compliments from my friends, family members, and even people that come to the same gym. I gained around 10 kilograms of lean muscle ( 30.2 kilograms to 40 kilograms) and even reduced 6% of my body fat ( 20% to 14%).

This task covers the strand, “activity’.

The learning outcomes covered in this activity are-

LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through the course of this activity, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. Listening skills have always been my strength. Clearly listening and following my trainer was the only way I could succeed at what I was aiming. By listening to him, I was also able to learn how our body’s muscle system functions and how to keep it in a healthy state. More importantly, I was able to identify my physical weaknesses like stamina. I was able to build up my stamina through this activity. My trainer had set specific exercises for me to help build up my stamina. Building up my stamina was very important as it will keep my cardiovascular system healthy and would also prevent me from getting into cholesterol related problems.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

The most challenging aspect for me was to get into the habit of going to the gym daily. Previously, I was into the habit of 2-3 days a week of physical activity but going to the gym for 6 days a week was very challenging. More than physical strength, it required mental strength and determination. However, I was successful in achieving my aim of going to the gym for 6 days a week with the help of my motivating parents and trainer. Now, I feel very much proud of myself as I was successful in taking up this challenge. It is very much necessary for any person to be able to take up physical and mental challenges. Determination was one of the key aspects of my success.

LO4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment was very much necessary to complete this activity. After every day of physical workout, sore muscles and cramps became very much irritating but common. Hence, I had to be very much determinant towards my aim and I had to be mentally strong too. While initially, it was too difficult for me, it became easier with time for me to cope up with the physical pain. Showing commitment towards anything is my nature but it was put to a test during this activity because I had to go through something I had never experienced.

L6- Engagement with issues of global significance

Obesity is a global issue that has affected the majority of people. This isn’t just a personal issue but also a global issue as it decreases the productivity of a country as people tend to be couch potatoes and don’t work. Hence, I was determined to not be a couch potato by exercising daily. Working out daily will make me fitter both physically and mentally. This will make me much more productive. Also, going to the gym helped me influence my friends too for joining the gym with me.
