Marathon – Run for a green Surat

A marathon was organized in surat named Run for Green Surat it is the season-opening run event of the city and is a Green Good Deed by EssAct. A monsoon run event that promotes and encourages sustainable and environment-friendly cityscape. My daily routine does not include running or physical activities but the concept of the Marathon grabbed my attention it was run green. At the end of the marathon, we were expected to Plant a tree. It was an act of showcasing responsibility towards the environment. The participant was expected to choose an option to run 4km or 11km. As I was running for the first time I choose to run 4km. Being a part of IB diploma student as per the curriculum they have to showcase creativity, activity, and service. This focuses on both activity and service. Activity (It includes running) Service (Showcasing responsibility towards environment grow trees. In ESS I have learned the importance of trees and the effects of less tress) all this the enthusiasm to experience something new (marathon) and applying my knowledge motivated L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Not being an Athlete was a drawback as well as running 4km. Through this, I gained experience and got to know areas. (what weakness) Knowing my weakness was helpful because it made me ponder upon my health. I can work to develop my fitness and the importance of the environment. I also understood that I have energy and potential to run but it requires practice. Completion was the first question but the environment motivated me. I would consider working on my health. L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process The biggest challenge was the capability to run, it was a challenge because I don’t run or jog every day somehow I managed to overcome the challenge, after all, participating in other sports activity in school helped. Neither have I grown a single plant but this gave me an opportunity to showcase responsibility and care for the environment. I also learned patience waiting for the body to catch up with mind, waiting for getting used to running, waiting for completion. Running teaches you a lot majorly it taught me patience. At several intervals, I got tired and my legs were paining but with the aim not to give up kept on motivating me, even thinkingĀ of running is still a major challenge but I believe I have the potential and require more practice.

L4 – Commitment and perseverance

When my sister told me to participate at first I was like I cant, in fact, I have never participated and she told me everything has a first time. This brought the energy and enthusiasm to show that I can do what I enroll myself for, I was worn out and had no energy after running 3km but somehow seeing the enthusiasm of people around me kept on motivating me and I successfully completed 4km with a company of my friend.

Planting tree after the marathon
L6 – Engage with issues of global significance We have been learning the importance of plants in the environment there have been issues that we might face due to fewer trees hence I thought to plant a tree and enhance my stamina together is a great idea.
End of the green run
Early morning rainy season running a marathon a blissful experience seeing people around you of all different ages motivates you. It was pleasant and the ending had to be the best as we grew plants.
