BALMELA

Balmela was a student-led event wherein underprivileged children were to be taught different activities like dancing, sports, arts, and games. This was an event that catered to the enjoyment of childhood by providing them the resources that they were unable to cherish. My keen interest in arts compelled me to volunteer for face painting and with my luck hand in hand, I got an opportunity to be the team leader in the particular field. lo1: identify own strengths and develop areas for growth- I was always inclined towards art and I wanted to volunteer for something that could help me bring happiness to those children. However, the fact that I had never tried face painting so I had no idea of how it was supposed to be done. I researched and saw videos, I thought that it was just like normal painting but while doing it on the children I realized that as they were small they moved a lot. So it was necessary to keep the hand stable and in position. In the starting, it was quite difficult but as the number of children increased, so my hand got used it as we tend to do things faster when we have a lack of time and a huge number of people to cover. lo4: commitment to and perseverance: Just Before balmela took place, grade 12 farewell for the past batch was organized. So we were very tired and exhausted and we even didn’t had sufficient or ample amount of sleep as before balmela, global oddessy took place and since I was a part of the decoration team for both of the events, we had early ins almost daily. So sleeping late and waking up early was really tiresome and when balmela took place I was not in mood at all to sacrifice my sleep and it was on Saturday so I had to sacrifice my study time also but when I actually thought about those children, I could not back off at the last moment and I knew I will do it for them. lo5:  Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively: so being the team leader I kept in mind that everybody got a chance and as a team, we worked effectively and collaboratively. I took the lead and guided them on what is supposed to be done. I gave them pictures so that they have an idea of what possible things they could make on the faces of children. I also told them how to treat children when they came. My team members were very understanding and even if one member of the team was overcrowded, the other managed and tried catering to all the children who turned up. At last, a lot of children came but the speed with which we did, we almost covered all. overall I was very happy and joyful about how the event took place, also those smiles and their gestures of saying that they have liked it so much and that “thank you didi” made it even more special.
