Monsoon Musings

Monsoon Musings was an event led by the students where students of our school, parents, and teachers were invited to come and share poetry written by them. I was a part of the cooking team. My main and initial duty was to make Ice-Tea and serve it to the guests coming for the event. After some time, I helped other members in cooking. The profit was donated to a charity. Learning Outcomes achieved- Lo1- Identity own strengths and develop areas for growth- I knew some basic cooking which was taught to us in our school during survival classes, and I help my mother on weekends during cooking sometimes. Hence I thought I would be capable enough to help the cooking team. After Monsoon Musings, I learned a bread orientaded dish which was liked by my parents when I made it at home. Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process- As we had a time limit on us because we had to prepare the food items after arriving at school, we had to be quick. The school kitchen was quite new for us as we had been in the new kitchen for the survival classes and been in the old kitchen only once. We did not know where the equipment was placed and so we had to continuously ask for them. But still, we ended up completing the task. Lo5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively- As mentioned above that we had a time constraint, after completing my Ice-Tea task, I quickly went to the kitchen and helped the cooking team and giving an extra hand helped us to prepare the food items quicker and on time. Lo7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions- We had to prepare Ice-Tea and were given a specific quantity to prepare. When the event started, visitors demanded to have more Ice-Tea. The drink was getting over quickly and someone from behind said, add water to increase the quantity of Ice-Tea if the taste was compromised it would e fine. I denied this option and rather decided to let the visitors know that we were out of Ice-Tea. I stuck to my ethics of fair treatment. Conclusion I developed my Communication skills as we had to be in touch with a lot of people to communicate to gets the task done correctly. The task was a success as people were quite happy by the food quality and decorations. I was very happy by the reaction as our hard work was appreciated. We had sold the food items and so our profit was then donated to a charity for a good cause. Evidence- Monsoon Musings Me refilling Ice-Tea Me serving Ice-Tea
