Tarang is an annual event which is held at our school, to showcase our learning of AS (Arts special). We are offered various art form from which we have to select one to learn the forming trough out the year. Forms that we are offered are visual arts, Music, Dance, and drama. My specialization was Visual arts. I have always been fond of the subject and always try to explore more in the field. Fine arts being my career choice I really enjoy these classes and always find a way to outdo myself in order to achieve more of my potential. Every year I work on a topic that I select and throughout the year create artworks related to that topic. For the past two years I have been working on ‘Peace’ and this year I changed my topic to ‘Pressure’ mainly focusing on waves. During Tarang which is hosted at the end of the year, the students of visual arts put up an exhibition.
LO1:- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While doing the set up for the exhibition I knew I could come up with great ideas but communicating them with others was a problem. While the set up there were few up and down as the planning was pushed back as we did not get the required resources on time. Due to delay, it started to get chaotic. So I came up with new ideas that might help with the set up It was hard for me to share it with everyone but I knew I had to do it to make sure that things do not get more chaotic. Talking with people and sharing my idea with them have always been my weak spot I was miss out on important information but in situations like these I know I will have to speak up. This might just be the start of me starting to gain confidence while sharing my ideas with others.
LO2:- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
I knew that I was good when it comes to making artwork on paper but working on a canvas with oil paints was something very different from me. I have made a few paintings in oil paints before but they did not involve a lot of mixing as they were pretty easy to make. Do this year as I selected to work with waves I selected an image which has a lot of use of color and mixing of the colors so I could develop the ability of observation. To enhance my observation level I next made a painting from the real-life picture of myself and not the image of an already existing artwork.
This artwork was very challenging for me as I do not have enough practice of Antony and directly paintings a human figure in oil paints was difficult for me. But it was a fun process.
As I have already worked on the base of paper and canvas I wanted to work on something different was the base of my work. So I ended up painting on sunglasses and doing the carving. on Plaster of pairs. Working with plaster of pairs was messy and fun to do, It also required a lot of patience to make sure that I do not end up breaking the piece of carving more that I need to. While carving I also had t make sure that the edges are clean and there is a smooth surface on the carved area. While painting od glasses it was hard for me to work in a small area as I have been working on big artworks for a while now, so this was a difficult task to carry out. But I would say that I am happy with the outcome.
LO4:- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
As this event happen every year to make sure that we get enough public we need to make sure that every year we do something better than the last year. So as every year the things step up a bit it brings stress as well. For me, I had to be committed to my work which involved coming to school early and doing stay-backs every day to finish the work we had in our hands. The issue was that the main installation of the exhibition was not finished which caused a lot of chaos and commitment was needed to make sure that it ends. For me I know I can be committed to things which are required. I had to do stay-back and come early as Before this event I also had 2 more events one after another which cause me to have a really packed schedule. But at the end of it all, I was able to manage everything that was needed to be done.
Tarang is the event where I can showcase everything that I have learned throughout the year. Although this year I felt I did not put in many efforts that I could have hence, I am well prepared for next year as I what to make sure that I do the best work I can and put in my 100%. Also managing time this year was an issue so I also need to make sure that I manage time and do not end up working at the last moments.
