Every year, our school holds a farewell for Class XII, who are in their final year academically. This event is almost completely organized with the help of the junior Class XI students. Similarly, our batch had held a farewell for the batch of 2017-19. During this student-led event, I happened to be the Head of Resource Management and I was supposed to note the materials required by the different teams working in the farewell, alongside helping in decorations and assign tasks to students as well.
Learning outcomes achieved are–
LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I have always been interested in work related to preparation and especially those related to arts and designing. I had identified this as a strength as I was prepared to work hard for something of my interest. Later, the strenuous management role did not seem so bad due to the fact that I was doing something I was actually passionate about, rather than something which I was reluctant about.
LO2-Demonstrate that new challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills-
Management of people is a job which I was not too familiar with. Leadership skills are an important set of skills which I feel that I would like to learn. Being the head of a management team which has to keep the usage of materials in check proved to be the perfect opportunity to fine-tune my authoritative skills. There were many times where I was under pressure to complete my assignments and I successfully did so without succumbing to the pressure.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Perseverance and tenacity were 2 very important skills required and I feel that the strain of the work was not enough to cause me any major problems. Normally, I am not too comfortable with working under such situations but due to the nature of the scenario, it was a good opportunity for me to go beyond my comfort zone. I feel that persistence, in any job, is very important and this was no different for me or my classmates.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Our entire farewell plan was one which required the utmost collaboration and cooperation between students. Due to the number of students working, there were different groups divided for different tasks and the group under me managed resources. It was key that communication between different groups was to be present for a suitable assignment. In my assignment, teamwork was especially important due to the fact that many decoration items were limited in number and that we utilize them fruitfully was a must.
