Bal Mela

Underprivileged children were invited, from SMC and village schools , to our school to enjoy different sports, arts and games along with us. This was our chance to share our resources with others. The students were given the opportunity to play some games, dance a little, have a lif performance and get their face or hand-painted however they liked. I had decided to do Face Painting as it was a new skill for me to learn.

LO1- Identify own strength and develop areas for growth
For this particular activity, my strength was that I have done a lot of artistic activities so this task wouldn’t be very difficult to complete. However I found that face painting was quite different than normal painting or sketching, it was harder as we were doing it on children and they tend to move around a lot. My weakness was that this was the first time I had done face painting and the first time I had participated in bal mela , so I had underestimated it and the number of children that were going to come. In the middle, I started feeling quite overwhelmed because of my weakness. In the end, I ended up working on it and never underestimate any other event.

LO4- Commitment to and perseverance
Commitment and perseverance were needed because many children were coming and they all were coming at the same time. So it was quite difficult to cater to everyone, this is when I started feeling a bit overwhelmed. Since many children were going to the other art stall, like hand painting/ tattoo We had to keep switching otherwise there would be an even longer queue then there was. It is often easy for me to commit to things which are connected to the arts. However, it was hard for me to commit to this as it was conducted on a Saturday and one top of that there was a lot of moving around going on.

LO5-Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working with others isn’t easy nor is it hard for me. I am antisocial so there may be problems with communicating, however other than that I find that I work with others well. During this activity, it was easy on collaborating since it would be impossible if we hadn’t collaborated. Everyone was open to collaborating and no one was being hard or difficult to handle. It is important to work in teams sometimes as there are many skills one can learn from others and this is done by working in a team. If we hadn’t worked together we would have never been able to cater to everyone so it was good that we did.

In conclusion, I had learnt a new skill which was face painting and I had come out of my personal comfort zone to get the work done effectively
