Art For Everyone
Art for everyone was a student-led event where we went to a government school and helped/ taught them some art skills, like drawing and colouring. The event was divided into two days, I had only gone to one. I had participated by helping the children in drawing and explaining to them how to do certain things.
LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth My strength in this particular event was that I had some experience in art, it was easy for me to understand what I should tell them to do and was easy for me to get ideas on what different colour schemes they can use while colouring and what they can add in their drawings. My weakness was that there was a language barrier between the students and myself, so it was hard for me to explain some things to them. I had worked upon this and tried my best at that time.
LO4 – commitment to and perseverance What made this activity hard was the language barrier and again there were a lot of students to cater to. So it was hard to handle these many people at the same time, especially for me as I have never engaged much before. Another thing was that it was on a Saturday again, that too early morning, so I had to show commitment to that as well since the school was far as well. It is generally easy for me to commit to things related to art however I had some doubts in this while going since I knew there would be a language barrier.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively Working with others is usually easy for me and this time it was easy as well. While working with others I didn’t come across any difficult people so everything went quite smoothly. It is important to work with others as you may learn new skills, for example, I learned different techniques while collaborating with others. It was important that we work as a team so that everything was happy and so that we get a good outcome.
LO6 – engagement with issues of global significance The issue was that these children didn’t have many resources, we had collected old resources from our school and the students who were willing to donate. It is important globally because there may be many other schools which have the same problem but we don’t know about it because we don’t face it. It made me feel grateful for the resources that I have and it made me feel sympathetic for the children.
In conclusion, it was an amazing experience in general and I would do it again as it gave a sense of satisfaction.
