Whakanui
The mission statement of fountainhead school is “TO NURTURE LEADERS THROUGH CHARACTER AND COMPETENCE. Fountainhead as a school lays emphasis on all student taking up leadership roles in their year of school to prepare them for the challenges that may come in the future. And to provide such opportunities there are various student led events which were organised by the school. One of them was Whakanui a cultural event. This event required us to represent various cultures around the globe and analyse the work that was done. I was given an opportunity to be a team leader of one of the teams. And I was leading Team oceania, under it we had to work on representing a Maori wedding culture in Oceania. The learning outcomes that I achieved during this event are:-
Lo1- Identify strengths and weaknesses- Being a leader is something which does not come in handy to me because i have never taken a leadership role before so this was the first time I was taking it up. And hence during this process there were a lot of thing i came to know about myself. Mainly my strengths and weaknesses.
Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken- As stated earlier that I was taking up the leadership role for the first time and hence there were a lot of things that i did not know and a lot of challenges that I had to face during the whole process. Firstly I had no experience so there was a lack of planning, as a leader I could not ensure that the planning was being done properly or not neither could I make a proper timeline of how the flow of things should go. And lastly things were going very vague and haywire so there was a lot of last minute chaos but eventually we managed to finish the work on time.
Lo3-Initiate and plan a CAS experience- As a team leader it was my responsibility to plan the whole event for my group and to initiate it as well. It was my duty to guide my team members as how to go about with things. It was my duty to plan the whole thing out for them and help them in making the whole thing a success.
Lo4-Commitment to and perseverance- We were briefed about this event one month prior to the date and so we the team leaders were assigned work accordingly so that we could get the work done in the given deadline. And so it was necessary for us to stay committed to our work and start guiding the people accordingly. Despite of the challenges and the criticisms that I got I decided to stay committed and not give up.
Lo5-Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively- This was a joint venture as in it was supposed to be done by the whole group so we knew that we would have to work together, There were times when work assigned to all the team members was not done and in those times we made sure that instead of blaming others we helped each other in finishing the tasks and giving it on time. At all times we motivated each other to work as efficiently as they could.
The learner profiles catered are:
Knowledgeable- We applied our knowledge of the language in this event where we had to explain how we used it to make the event a success.
Open-minded- We had to be open to all kinds of ideas that came across in the group and respect their feelings.
