FSMUN 5.0

FSMUN 5.0 was a Model United Nations organized in our school itself on 1st and 2nd December. I participated in FSMUN as a delegate of Afghanistan in the DISEC committee. The agenda of our committee was to discuss capacity building and counter-terrorism in the state of Afghanistan and Pakistan. This was my first experience in MUN, and the purpose of this CAS experience was to understand the functionality of a MUN and develop my vocational skills. The LOs covered include: LO1, LO4, LO6, and LO7

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

I possess commendable amount of communication skills, which is very important in MUNs because it is essential for delegates to communicate their points effectively making them sound convincing and reasonable to other delegates as well as the chair. Also, I had good research skills which was important to research about the current scenario in Afghanistan and find points and sources of information that could be used while making my points. However, I lacked self-confidence as it was my first MUN. With the help of my chair and teachers, I was able to gain self-confidence and participate well in FSMUN.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Working on FSMUN was very difficult for me as I had a lot of school work to do as well, along with practicing for the upcoming football game and SAT exams. It was all coming together and I was almost on the verge of quitting FSMUN when I was motivated by my peers to work for it even though as the experience will be very fruitful and I would regret not attending it. Due to this, I had to wake up late at night to complete my research about my topic, which did get me a verbal mention from my chair.

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

While researching for my topic, I came to understand the various situations in Afghanistan about terrorism and capacity building. The people over there had to suffer so much because of the existing rebel groups and political parties. I had a discussion about this with my father and we came up with probable steps and solutions that can be taken to bring back peace and stability in the regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While researching, I made sure that I cite every source of information that I access and take ideas from, giving them full credit, avoiding any scopes of plagiarism in my work that could make my information highly unethical.

FSMUN 5.0 did provide me a platform to further explore my communication skills and made me learn the importance of having a balanced lifestyle and time management. It also encouraged me to participate in further MUNs thereafter to understand more about other political conflicts!
