Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey was a Group 3: Humanities project organized in our school itself by a collaboration of students and teachers. We were supposed to use our Humanities knowledge in creating a stall based upon the topic allocated to our group. My group was allocated with the topic of Entertainment. We decided to have 4 separate stalls where different forms of entertainment can be explored. We had a photo booth, video game booth, balloon game, and a treasure hunt game as part of our Entertainment stalls. The learning outcomes covered in this CAS experience include: LO3, LO5, LO6, LO7.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

During the planning stage of this event, we started to brainstorm for different ideas that we could incorporate as forms of entertainment which will be liked by everyone in the school. However, finding new ideas was like going round and round in circles where we could not decide upon one idea only. Thus, we decided to have multiple ideas where we delegate each member of our group to one particular idea so that everyone gets equal roles and responsibilities, and the chances of the failure of our groups are minimized due to diversification. Each member was given the responsibility to make and set up his own game and one member was taking all the cash from the customers who wanted to play the game so that a total can easily be counted at the end of the event.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working in a group helped us divide the total workload on all the members of our group. We delegated each member certain responsibilities only, making everyone’s work easier and also increasing the efficiency of the work as it was delegated to members as per their skills and credibility. Along with this, it also helped us do all our work in very less time, so that we had time to discuss different marketing strategies that we could adopt to get maximum share of customers for our stall and ensure a successful Entertainment stall

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

The profits we made from our Group 3 project was donated to a noble cause, which is the education of underprivileged kids in rural areas near our school. I believe education is the basic right every individual should get, no matter who the individual is. Our donation for the education of underprivileged kids will them with a school, books, stationary, and uniform making them motivated to go to school as well. Also, this may be a small contribution towards education for all, however, it is a stepping stone, and many others might follow hand-in-hand, eradicating illiteracy from India at a go!

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While running our own stalls, we made sure we do not use any aggressive tactics or deliberate manipulation of customers, since they were kids, so that we do not face any repercussions afterwards. We communicated with our customers very gently and kindly, and also encouraged them to not only visit our stalls, but other stalls of our friends as well to ensure the success of the event as a whole, and not only for my group.

Global Odyssey was a memorable event where I learnt a lot about how a business works. I learnt how to deal and manage finances and operations, along with effective marketing strategies that can boost up a business. Also, it was delightful seeing kids coming to our stalls and enjoying playing our games and praising the efforts we made towards this event.
