Monsoon Musings Reflection-Ansh Patel

For this activity, I take a great deal of courage to step out of my comfort zone to do something I have not done before, for bearing a little bit of my soul to an unknown audience. I will recite a poetry that I wrote.

The learning outcomes that I achieved are the following:

  • LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
(after I finish reciting my poem on stage, I’ll know how good I did, based on the feedback from my audience).
  • LO4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
(after being provided one month time for preparation, I could have chosen to not attend the event on the given date, but I decided to be committed to this activity).

As soon as I finished reciting the my original piece of literature (i.e poetry), I went to one of my classmates, and asked them about my performance. They replied that my poetry was beautifully written, but I needed to improve the clarity of my speech. This event provided me a chance to get feedback from my audience which helped me identify my strengths (creative writing), and weaknesses (public speaking). After identifying my strengths, and weaknesses, I will be working on better presentation of my work for public events, and I am glad about the fact that I was an opportunity to improve myself. For a school (teachers), understanding a student’s strengths, and weaknesses will help the teachers to guide a student into a direction where he/she can improve their weak points, as well as work more on strengths. I choose to work on my weaknesses because in future, there will be programs that would have my involvement in which I might have to speak publicly (For example: school reunion, or marriages). Therefore, an improvement will result into a better performance which will not only entertain me with appreciation, but also amuze my audience with my content.

The duration of this activity consisted of planning time, and event day which were present during school days. Working on an extracurricular event during school days is difficult as we are provided with school work that range from homeworks to tests. Therefore, it would have been easy for me to pretend to be a part of the event, and not attending the actual event (this was an actual thought that arrived for once), and it would also provide me with an advantage of escaping public speaking. Commitment of attending the event was necessary for me to see the positive results out of this event. Showing commitment has not been easy for me because I face different fears of attending extracurricular activities that are not compulsory. But showing commitment is very important in life because an activities that we do in future as adult, a level of maturity is required to achieve success, and it includes commitment, and being persistent to the tasks that are needed to be completed.
