Our school had organised service sessions for the governments school students in which we need to teach the underprivileged children and conduct various activities with them. The session was to be held at fountainhead school itself, starting from 14 and ended at 25th of August. We were told to make a choice between different curricular activities like cooking, dancing, basketball , football , frisbee , art and craft , etc.  Although my main interest lies in art and craft , i decided not to opt for a stereotype and to come out from my comfort zone and try out something new And so i decided to opt for cooking. The main ideology behind opting for cooking is that to get a new experience as i have never done anything like this before and my main motive was that the children tend to learn up something new and try to make different food items in their day to day life and grow as an individual.
problems faced:
There were a lot of students and managing them was a difficult task because we were only four and they were 14-15 children.  So we four used to get divided with the work and children to make the task go easy and smoothly. So here i learnt how to work as a team collaboratively by fulfilling lo5.
They used typical Gujarati language and so sometimes it takes time for me to understand what they want to say exactly but i knew Gujarati so i used to cope up with them and interact with them as much as possible. Also they were very shy and to make them speak was a difficult task. So i used to ask and interact them in a very sweet and polite way.
Also the boys who opted for cooking were very naughty and mysterious , as soon as the food was eaten they used to run here and there and made us very difficult to find them back. So to overcome that we used to be with them every time and took them to play sports so that they get themselves busy and engaged.                                                                       There were times when i used to get irritated and frustrated with them , but i tried to be calm and handle it with patience and apply a positive attitude towards them without getting rude to them.
We worked as a team and also worked collaboratively , they used to follow the same procedure like we used to show them,  also whenever we asked them what ingredients were used , they enthusiastically gave all correct answers and anticipatedly participated in making the food items.
Every saturday we used to have our service sessions. We had to come to school for 6 saturday’s. It was quite difficult because we needed to give out time for studying as well and so i tried giving equal time to both of them and that is how i learnt to manage my time.
I felt courageous and proud of myself that i was able to do it and the best part was that i could see the smiles on their faces that made me go beyond skies. I felt satisfied and proud.
They used to give such positive energy which used to transfer to us. Although we could not remember all of their names , but they knew all of us.
I felt so good to be a part of the session and i am glad that i got such a wonderful opportunity to share happiness and teach something new and i hope that i do such great things again and teach new skills and learning’s and contribute to the world.
