Basketball at State Level

Selections for The Surat’s basketball team had been conducted and I cleared them so I had been selected to play for Surat Tapi’s team. Special camps had been organized to develop our possed skills and learn new ones. We had been called up for practice from 16th June to 4th August daily for 2 hours where we worked upon our speed, endurance, game sense, and skills. We also performed some team building activities to know each other better and set our coordination with others. We then went to Baroda for our states competition but unfortunately, we lost all the matches but we had given our best.

Learning Outcomes Achieved-

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop the area of growth

I knew I had some skills possed like passing, dribbling, defence, shooting, etc but once the camps began, I started knowing the advanced skills I had, like advance passes, good dribbles, and good shooting accuracy. The weakness I came across was that I get scared when I play against advanced players and underperform due to this, but after the camps and while playing in the state competition, I got the confidence to play against advanced players. Now after knowing my strengths and overcoming my weakness, I feel confident while playing and I no longer get scared while playing against advanced players. I feel confident while playing in the tournaments and now I consider myself as good as other players.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

For me, one of the main problems was team building, I was one of the new players because other players knew each other well as they had played together in the past. I didn’t receive a warm welcome and nobody knew my game so I was never taken in the team in the initial days, then I had a word with the captain to let me play and I got the opportunity, I showed my game skills and received appreciation from other players. That was a satisficing moment for me. Another issue was time management, Practising 2 hours daily made my schedule very busy as I had tuitions at the exact same time as my practice, so I took my mothers opinion as she suggested to miss tuition till my states were over and so I had a word with my tuition teacher and agreed that whatever syllabus is missed, I will cover on my own. This is how I managed my time.

LO 4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience-

Being on time was one of the most important things in the camps and as mentioned, the Camps were very important for me and so I showed commitment to it and missed my tuitions for the time being. This helped me to focus on my camps and be free minded to learn more. Showing commitment is very important as it reflects one’s nature and attitude, being on time shows how dedicated and punctual I am and helps me to build a good character.

My takeaways- This experience was truly amazing and helpful as it taught me to stay on time and also I had a lot of fun during the camps, those of the courts’ chats, cheering players, etc was truly amazing. Also, I learned that never be afraid to show your original game to seniors, they always appreciate it.
