Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey was a group 3 event organized in school by students and teachers. The event was similar to a business fair; all the groups had to sell different items. However, we had to use different marketing strategies learned while creating our stalls and while marketing our products. There were five groups made with different topics: Food, Fashion, Entertainment, and Entrepreneurs. Our topic was Entrepreneurs. We were expected to pick either of the three topics and sell things which were unconventional and unique. However, we decided to sell unique products from each topic, and I was responsible for making creative handmade products. We had Photo Booth, Coco with Brownie, Fruit loops, handmade straw candles, handmade mini books, bottles with rice- name engraved on them, and many more.

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

As mentioned earlier, I was responsible for making all the creative products. While making these products, I then realized my strength in making creative things from scratch. More prior, I was into Arts. However, I only dealt with making artworks. I always had a perception that origami and kirigami weren’t my cups of tea. This event made me realize my strength. After this event, I have started being into the making of such creative things. Moreover, while doing this event, I also realized that I was poor at managing my time. I took 2 to 3 weeks to complete making my orders, which was quite a delay. However, to overcome that problem, I then decided always to do the most prior things first and then move to other things.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The major challenge I faced during this activity was to figure out creative things to sell. I was responsible for the fashion section, and my teacher told me that she expected different and unique from the other group because I was a part of Entrepreneurs group. Initially, I struggled a lot to come up with ideas because the other group decided to sell every possible thing. However, then soon, I realized that I could make something handmade which was unusual to the other group. After that, it was easier to decide the products and start working on it. In a way, it can be said that my observation skills have improved in this activity. By using that skill, I was able to come to my products which were missing in the other group.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

While planning for the event, we started to list down the unique products we could sell. We decided we would sell things related to all the other three topics.  However, we ended up writing more than 20 items. After that, it became complicated to cut short the items because everybody’s opinion was clashing. Thus, we decided to sell multiple items. This ensured everybody had a role to do and something to sell. One person was assigned to conduct the photo booth, one person to handle the fashion section, one person to manage the cash, and others managed the food. Dividing the work among us made the process easier. Such a technique can be used in a further group project to ease out the processing.

Sometimes, it is challenging for me to work in a group because not everything goes my way. However, this time, our teamwork help us immensely. In our group, we divided our work equally and gave every member a specific responsibility. Through this, the process got easier, we made sure everybody participated, and the efficiency and quality of our work increased. Furthermore, in such a manner, we were also able to save a lot of time and utilize it to fix the issues and help other members.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

All the profits generated from this event were submitted to the school, and they donated the money for the education of underprivileged kids in rural areas. In my opinion, in today’s world, education has become a necessity to sustain, and everybody has a right to get it. Therefore, this was a small step from our side to bring a change in the world and bring literacy by educating people.

LO7- Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and action

While the day of the event, we made sure that no price discrimination were there because every customer was equally important, be it a teacher or a student. We also made sure that all the products we sold were of high quality and not defective. Furthermore, we also made sure that we were considerate and kind to all the customers. When the event ended, it could have been possible that we kept the money which we were supposed to donate to have higher profits. However, we made sure no such practices were followed.
