Fountainhead school students had an opportunity to represent themselves and India in France for International Inter-school Ultimate competition. There were tryouts held to select top 6 boys and top 6 girls for the team; I was one of them. After the selections were done, all the selected people were expected to attend early morning camps on Tuesday and Thursday for over 5 months. The motive of these camps was to improve our coordination and work on our individual skills.
LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Morning camps have immensely helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses. After I started going for the camps regularly, I realized that my strengths were my judgments, my speed, and my height. Therefore, I was very good at playing deep because that position requires all the three skills mentioned. Therefore, now, whenever we play, I am usually the deep cutter. Camps also helped me identify that I was weak at handling the disc and that I had low stamina. I always had a fear of getting defended and throwing a bad throw while handling. Moreover, I would always get tired after playing one or two points. Therefore, to overcome my weakness, my coach suggested me to handle the disc whenever I got an opportunity and asked to pivot more so that I get space to throw properly. For building the stamina, I forced myself to play as many points as I can and drank a lot of water. Also, I started to play smart so that my energy wasn’t wasted. This has helped me improve my game drastically.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
The most challenging bit, while attending the camps, was that I had to play with those people whom I have never played with and also didn’t feel comfortable playing with. It had become very difficult for me to give my best with these people. I always lacked confidence while playing with them and lose my patience. However, then I realized that this will not work and that I was not supposed to get demotivated and play my best. Therefore, I decided to be patient and open-minded while playing. I decided to not pay attention to other people and play according to me. Such a practice has helped me give my best while playing with anybody and has also developed my patience.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Due to some reasons, I was not able to go to the competition. Therefore, I didn’t need to attend the camps early in the morning and had an option. Though I had no reasons to disturb my sleep and go for camps, I went. I stood committed to it because I wanted to improve my skills and performance. Though I missed some camps, I tried to go for the camps whenever possible and practiced hard. After these camps, I have seen an improvement in my performance and my hard work has paid off.
