The FSCUP 2019 was a great opportunity to showcase my talent and the hard work I had put in. The basketball tournament of the FSCUP was organized by me and my friends. It was our job to send invites to other school and so the invitation was sent by the coach to other schools and I had personally handed out some forms of registrations myself. We had to make sure that all the arrangements were proper and the court’s conditions are perfect. I had also played the tournament in the Under-19 category and my team stood 1st.
Learning outcomes covered-
Lo1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Due to the camps attended earlier, I was now a bit more confident as a player to take difficult shots and this helped me improve my co-ordination with my team. I still have to work on stamina a bit as I sometimes get tired when my frequently run up and down the court. Talking about management, organizing the resources wasn’t a big task as a lot of the resources like tables, whistles, courts, basketballs were already present on the school premises. I had to develop my hearing skills, as we had to be on toes, I had heard a few things incorrectly and then performed the tasks, but then I calmed myself down and listened properly to the work assigned and then performed the tasks which made it really simple.
Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
There were a few challenges that came on the path which taught me a lot about time management. Our FSCUP was near our Hindi IOC and my novel was incomplete. Instead of whiling my time way by talking to other people and friends, I chose to read my novel at that time and was able to complete 3 chapters on that day. I felt satisfied and happy which had a positive impact on my game too. Though I was reading the novel, I first made sure that everything is properly arranged and in between of the tournament too I use to check and bring the required things so this is how I learned to manage my time and be proactive.
Lo3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
This required planning in the initial stage. Sending invites, making arrangements, calling referees, and much more. FSCUP happens every year and so this time we 4 people took the initiative to organize it and make sure that it was well managed. We had photographers with us to capture the game plays too. To initiate the planning, I had talked with the coach and he was fine if we took the responsibility to manage it. Slowly and gradually he started dividing tasks between us and we made sure we completed them. This was the main factor for the success of the event. We had proper guidance from our coach.
Lo4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
I was very much dedicated to both, organizing the event and playing in it. For organization, I used to co-ordinate with the coach on regular bases, asking them about the updates on the registrations and referees. I had even visited the students of different schools wishing to participate handing them hard copies of registration. Even though the tournament is near to our Hindi IOC, I managed to organize the tournament and gave my hundred percent while playing it. This commitment to the game made us the champions of the FSCUP 2019 for basketball.
Lo5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
As we were 4 students, management became comparatively easy for us. Pre-tournament we were assigned different tasks which we did but even on the day of the tournament, for example cutting the coupons for banana and lemonade and distributing them team vise per category would have been very difficult without a team. We had 2 people for cutting the coupons, 1 for arranging them teams vise as to the number of players per team and 1 person to hand the coupons to team coaches and explain them. This made the task easy and time-effective. This shows Delegation of work and the ease of working in a team.
Lo7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
For each category, we planned to select only 12 teams. We did not pick the weak teams against whom the Fountainhead teams could have won, rather we chose to have first come first bases. The top 12 teams who register first will get the chance to play the tournament. This made sure that the teams putting in the efforts to register first are given a fair chance.
Final Takeaway-
I really enjoyed organizing and playing FSCUP as basketball is something that I like and I really enjoy to perform or work with anything related to basketball hence it was my passion who made me work hard to achieve success. This tournament gave a platform to every player to show their skills and their capabilities and I am grateful that I organized it. The skill of time management skill which I learned from this event will make me proactive and balanced in life. Also the dedication I show towards basketball which leads to achievements also shows how focusing on specific things leads you to success.
