Night out is one of the most awaited school events and we stay one night at our school and play sports the whole night, we have performances and scavenger hunt. Me and Dhwani had the opportunity to plan a scavenger hunt for the night out for grade 9 to 12. Scavenger hunt is just like a treasure hunt where people search for places using the clues and get to the next clue. We made a long list of clues considering the names of places present in our school. The clues were approved and activities were planned which the students will have to perform when they land up at the perfect place.
L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
Scavenger Hunt is one of the most criticized events at night out as anyone would prefer playing or being with friends instead of running around the school. When I got the opportunity that I will be planning the scavenger hunt, I was worried as few people asked me to scrap the scavenger hunt before as it was not interesting. We still planned out the scavenger hunt and had to make sure the clues and activities this time were more interesting and the students should like it. At the end we received positive feedback from the teachers and the students.
L3- initiate and plan a CAS experience
We had to plan out the entire scavenger hunt including the clues, the activities and the order of how the clues will be placed. The first step was to list down names of places in our school. Our school have different names for each room like chemistry lab is known as Alchemy in our school. After the list was ready we brainstormed clues for each place with the help of teachers and clues from previous night out. The order of the clues were also to be planned by us and I made sure that students run the maximum. On a page I listed down all the places with the location and ordered the clues in a way that students have to run the maximum. Planning the clues was a difficult job but planning out with some extra effort and making sure everything is realistic the initiation became very easy and the event went smoothly.
L4-commitment to and perseverance
We made a draft of clues and showed the clues to the teachers incharge and many clues were rejected and new clues had to be made. There were many discussions on clues and many times the clues were changed or tweaked. At the end a final list was made and every time changing the needed commitment to the event as we used to come early to our school and plan out the event as the clues needed to be a secret. We also had to prepare many clues as in grade 9-12 there were many students and the teachers made around 24 teams. More clues were needed as less clues might cause the problem of many groups gathering at one place and making it difficult for the teachers.
L5-. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
I was working with my partner with helped to brainstorm many clues and also helped us to divide our task and make sure one person is not burdened with too many tasks. Our teachers also helped us and we used to carefully listened to their suggestions as they were a part of planning the night out for many years and they also gave many interesting and good clues so, working collaboratively always help as you have more creative inputs and also the work is divided.
L7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We had to make sure we were ethical to the job and not copy any clues from the internet and if we take the help of the internet we made sure to acknowledge the site. Same was done if any pictures were taken for the clues. The citation was done on the clue itself as we are taught to have academic honesty. We only had to refer the previous year’s clues and not copy them as it was the hard work of the previous students and copying their clues was not an act of academic honesty and copying might also make the scavenger hunt less interesting.
There was a lot of fun planning out the scavenger hunt and as a part of night out team I also gave inputs while planning out other events. The task was difficult as with the planning of the night out I was also a part of other events which I had to plan so managing the events and studies together was difficult but with time I was able to manage all the events and it was a lot of fun.
