Grade 12 Farewell

The most important day in the lives of Grade 12 students is their farewell. I had the opportunity to make this day a memorable one for them by becoming part of the event as a resource manager. We had a team of 15-17 people who were leading the various teams. I was assigned as the resource manager to the decoration team. We all had unanimously decided on a theme: Masquerade Ball with a touch of Bohemian. Since we had very less work in subject to the resources, we thought to help the decoration team to come up with ideas, and execute them in the correct manner. Since we had to give our seniors the most memorable night and showcase their school journey.

The learning outcomes achieved are:

L2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

While developing my problem-solving skills, I tried solving all the issues my teammates had. There were times, we had disputes regarding people working in the team. But I made sure to motivate them and get them back to work so that they could also enjoy the work they were doing. There were some people who were very stubborn with their decisions and to make them understand was a tough time, but I made sure to be polite with them so they are willing to do work with interest.

Another challenge we faced was with the resources since we had been given a set budget of which some part was given to the decoration team to arrange for resources. We had limited money, had to adhere to the theme and make amazing decorations. For this, we had to get the right resources. Initially, we had to take the resources from the school itself, but then we noticed that taking from school is much expensive and is going above the budget decided. So we went to the nearby shops and then compared prices to know which can be a better option. Then after this, we showed the school that there would be a huge difference if we get from outside since it will be cheaper and we can get all the resources in the budget. After school approved our request, we went to the markets to buy all the resources that were needed for the event. Hence we could overcome the problem in time.

L3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

We planned everything from scratch for the decoration team. We had to plan with ideas considering the theme so that our decorations match those. Each team member was assigned their work and resources. They were made understood how the decorations will be made so that they could start working with those. There was a lot of work to do and we had less time, so we would have to work at home also to finish the decorations. Since there were many events before the farewell, we had less time to prepare for it. But we didn’t give up and encouraged each other in finishing all the work. On the day of the farewell, most of the teams had been helping us to decorate the venues. We could bring up a nice show for our seniors. So, overall it was a great CAS experience where we took responsibility to help and manage the decoration team.

L4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

We were committed to giving our seniors a great experience, and so we were dedicated to make this event successful. We showed perseverance and commitment throughout the event. We used to come early every day to make the decorations for the event and extend our help to other groups who were lacking behind. I was always determined to the success of the event and made sure to encourage my friends too. Being a resource manager, I had arranged all the resources that the decoration team had wanted. There were some things that were not available so we made sure to get those from outside markets at less expensive prices.

L5: Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively helps most of the time. Since there were many other volunteers also who had taken part to make the decorations so we had to work in a team together to make the outcome a positive one. Since most of my team members were from my grade itself, we were able to coordinate and communicate well.  All of us had different skills we could bring up effective decor ideas for our seniors in accordance with the theme. We had taken into consideration the ideas of each member who had wished to give their inputs and finalized upon the best ones. On the day of the event, we split ourselves into smaller groups so that decorations could be put up within time since there were 3 venues to be decorated. We worked collaboratively and could easily overcome challenges, bring up better ideas, support each other and gain a sense of accomplishment once the objective was achieved.

The event had been very demanding since it required a lot of hard work, patience, and other skills. This was a memorable event not only for our seniors but also for us. We had got an opportunity to showcase our talents and skills through this entertaining platform. Inclusive of all the ups and downs faced it was a fun and illuminating experience. We were able to know our classmates better and respect their talents. Throughout the journey, we have explored a lot of new things and have created memories together.
