A group-3 (Humanities) event was organized in our school. It was led by students and we were guided by our teachers. Everyone was given different roles. I was a part of the logistics team. It required me to monitor the ‘entertainment sector’ of the event. I had to handle the money for the entertainment sector. Moreover, I also had to help the decoration team for the event. All the profits earned from this event were then donated.

The strands covered through this task were “creativity” and “service”.

The learning outcomes covered are: 

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through this event, I was able to identify my strengths and areas for growth. I was able to identify that I am actually good at handling the accounts (money). This showcases my management skills. However, I came to know how impatient I turn when the work wasn’t done. I often became impatient when there were a lot of people at our stall, but still, my other teammates had a casual attitude. This made me realize that I need to be a little more patient when such things happen. This will help me control things in a better way.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

I was never good at art and craft. However, as I was part of the logistics team, I had to help the decoration team. This required me to make paper hanging. I was initially quite unsure about it and it seemed impossible to me. I, then, asked for help from one of the friends who taught me how to make such hanging. It took me some time to learn it but soon I learned how to make them. I made around 40 to 50 hangings and then I was also assigned with other similar things. Through this event, I developed my art-and-craft skills and this was quite challenging for me. 

LO5-. Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively

For this event, we (as a grade) had to work together. We all had to help each other for everything. I learned how working collaboratively helped everyone get better at what they struggled. Working together also made things easier and quicker to do. However, this wasn’t so easy because it required strong communication skills to communicate plans and ideas.

LO7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Being the one who managed the accounts for the entertainment sector, I was often insisted by others to provide them a part of the profits. All the teams could take a share of the total profit so that their costs are covered. Hence, many people from my assigned sector insisted me to show their costs to higher from their actual costs. This meant that they would earn profits, which wasn’t the motive of the event. I had 2 choices, either to fulfill the wishes of my friends or to be honest to my teachers. I was clear about my choice. I chose to be honest with my teachers and gave them all the profits. I also justified my actions to my friends. In the end, even they realized that it was better to be ethical. 

Through this event, I learned various things. I learned how to apply the concept that I have learnt about accounts. Moreover, I recognized the benefits of working as a team. This will help throughout my life as all of us live in a society and we must synergize to live happily.
