Global Odyssey

This was a students led event, which integrated all the subjects from the humanities group (group 3). It was a carnival which included the subjects, Business management, psychology, ITGS, Global Politics, and Economics. There were various food stalls, entertainment stalls and fashion stalls, which students from grades 7-12 could come and buy stuffs and enjoy the event. I along with my partner were the head of the decoration team, and had to make sure to make the whole event look lively and attractive. L1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth This was the first experience for me being a head of Department and leading a group. Initially, I had no clue on what I was expected to do and what was expected from me. However, through the guidance of the event coordinators, I was able to guide my team and delegate the work equally amongst my team members. Here I would also like to give credit to my team members who would always obey me and were a back support to me. Through this event, I became aware of the leadership skills which I perceive and would make sure to work harder, to refine this skill. L2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process The first challenge we faced was to limit our decorations within a budget. Till now I had done the decorations of 2 events without any budget, however for this event we were restricted with a budget and the material which we required was too expensive and was going off budget. Hence we had to change our ideas frequently in order to maintain the budget. However after brainstorming and being proactive we were able to overcome this challenge and made amazing decorations within the budget. We decided to come early to the school to make all the decorations for the event. However, there were 1-2 students who wouldn’t turn up for the same, which decreased our productivity and efficiency as there were a lot of work but less students to do the same. Also we had less amount of time for the same. However after taking to our teachers and event coordinators, we were able to fix this, as they had provided us with more students and a bit more time which made it easier to finish our work on time. L4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences Being from the decoration team, on the day of the event, I didn’t have a work as my work got over just before the event started. Hence as I was committed to make the event successful, I didn’t waste my time in loitering around the place, instead, I decided to help the people in various stalls like the food stall, entertainment stalls, to run their stall smoothly. I made sure to be a helping hand to anyone required during the event and I was committed to make it a success. L5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively Working collaboratively made the event a success. My team had a lot of work left in the last minute. This gave me jitters on whether we would be able to finish it on time or not. I realized my mistake of not planning effectively, which resulted us in such a situation. However our teachers and event coordinators were a huge help for us in this whole situation. They provided us as many man power (which included students and didi’s) and as many resources required to put up the whole set up. Our teachers also gave us the permission to stay back after school hours to complete our work. Hence working collaboratively helped us to complete our set up on time. L6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance 10% profit was collected from all the stall holders, in the event, which was later donated to the NGO Save Missing Girls. This NGO works to eradicate girl trafficking, from the country. It has conducted many project and camps to create awareness about the issue, and also created graffiti in the streets to create awareness for the same. As in my opinion, each and every girl has the right to live the way she wants, and no one has the right to control it. Donating the money to this Ngo has helped to give a small contribution, to help to create awareness and eradicate this issue. As there was a huge amount of profit earned by all the stall holders, which helped us to donate a good amount of money to the organisation. L7- Recognize and Consider the ethics of choice and action. Even though we had a lot of last minute work, I made sure to keep my moral values and not shout on any one. I made sure to respect everyone including the support staff and my fellow mates. I also was determined towards the event in order to make it succesful, hence I made sure to delegate the work properly and learned how to manage time. Even while helping the other team members, I made sure to be ethical and gave the exact change to the customers. I also stopped other students from being unethical and made sure that everyone was honest. To conclude, this was an amazing experience for me. This event, not only gave me the opportunity to discover my self, but also taught me the significance of planning and team work. Being short tempered, this event helped me to control that factor also, and I made sure to be polite and soft spoken with everyone, even in the worst situations.
