Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey, an exhibition of our learning from subjects that have been chosen by each student across the grade. Under the roof of humanities subject such as Business Management, Psychology, ITGS, Economic and Global Politics were presented through the medium of this event which gave us an idea about the real-life applications of our learnings. Entertainment, Food, Logistics, Fashion, tourism and glorifying/marketing each of these sectors. The process of planning, assessing and evaluating ideas and resources like finance and the quantity according to the estimated visitors. The target customers, spending power and most importantly the marketing that would attract the customers to participate in this event and indirectly contribute to a greater cause. Our grade was divided into different sectors as mentioned about before, but the unity to make this event successful was the moto. The greater cause of creating awareness about the rising issue of “Missing Girl Child” was contributed to where a partial amount donated from the money earned by every group. I was part of a Food Stall which sold Indian and western street food such as Tacos, Cold Cocoa, Iced Tea, and Pani Puri being the menu buster outnumbering the demand of other items. It was a journey which contributed to my creative and kind side, thus helping me to also learn how important the subject of humanities are when running a business or providing a service.

L3- Initiating and planning a CAS experience

The event was to be held on 14th of February 2019 and we had one month to prepare from the very scratch. Teamwork is never an easy task along with time ticking on your head. We chose to be doing something in the food sector as all of us teammates were major foodies. In our first meeting, we planned out the timeline of how we were going to go about things until the D-day, testing the dish, estimated the cost for the raw products and the service and efforts put into creating it. Head of our group and the coordinator of our group had a clear cut communication since the very beginning so that we didn’t slow down the pace or decrease the morale of the event coordinators. Even though we had planned weekly plans for 2 weeks we all weren’t able to accomplish all of our tasks due to some or the other circumstances and somewhere due to our procrastinative attitude. We had a lot to do as and when the day of the event came nearer. Giving and sending reminders to each other during and after school hours was very important so that we give equal priority to the event just as we do to our assignments. I think that planning was a crucial part which did help up to get things in the right place and I feel that we could have done better if we wouldn’t have procrastinated and crossed the deadlines.

L5- Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively

People have opted different subjects as per their choice under humanities which was the biggest benefit as I got to learn about subject that I haven’t been learning every day. Knowing about Psychology, Economics or global politics from my group mates help me gain knowledge and help me to apply it at the right place in the right time. Learning about accounting, organization and calculations are aspects I learned from my teammates on the day of the event, I even learned about how important it is for a team to help every member in every way even if you’ve been assigned a different role. I also learned about communication and appreciation which has a direct impact on everyone’s mindset, everyone appreciates appraisals which also creates an enthusiastic atmosphere in the group lead to a great output which I could very well observe when there was chaos created due to the high demand. We all helped each other stay calm and patient and constantly motivate each other to keep pushing until we’re through.

L6- Engagement with issues of global significance

Service and kindness are 2 factors which have helped people change the way they look at the world. We always expect the society to pay us back but we think that we’ve done enough for it which isn’t true. There are people, women, children, men, and people who don’t specify themselves as male or female. We thought that it was important to take an initiative and even if it be not such a huge amount of donation but at least that step taken counts. The NGO “Missing Girl Child” has taken a huge step of reducing and creating awareness about how girls are being trafficked and how/why we should stop it and I think we made the right choice of donating the amount so that we can reduce and stop these acts from occurring.

L7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Greed or earning more and making profits was a thought I had when we had an endless number of customers to cater to. As the number of dishes left reduced we had a thought of changing to price/ reducing the quantity but as we have learned in Business management and economics that customer care and happiness is the priority which we almost forgot about. Being hygienic during making and serving, quicker service and keeping the right accounts were all part of our ethics as an individual and group. Though there were members in the group who tried to earn more money by giving service to the ones who paid extra for whatever they wanted in the packed scenario. I feel that I had a second thought of breaking my ethical code but I didn’t and I was glad about my contribution to both my group and the global change lead by the “Missing Girl” NGO.
