Whakanui (Culture Day!)

Whakanui

Over the years culture and traditions have changed and it’s essential to the world is lost. This event is interrelated with the subject English focusing on the culture. The purpose of the event was integrating language with the culture where students across the grade were assigned different continents from which each team as selected by the group leader. Several different text types we prepared to represent the chain of events that occur at the royal wedding of the royal living in countries under the assigned continents. This event was a result of a well prepared still the last moments show setter. I felt that this event played a larger role in understanding culture as a part of our language course and learning about several different conventions when creating them. Taking the pride and uplifting the importance of culture was another aspect I feel that I learned from, respecting, appreciating and taking the pride to get to represent other countries culture was something to be proud of.

L1-
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Being creative and designing things has always been my area of interest and I wanted to contribute to the event by showcasing my strengths. Learning about other culture is a difficult task and I think that I was very well able to research and develop and Menu for the Royal Wedding in ‘Morocco’. As I started developing ideas I got the approved by our supervisor and learned that it’s important to take a view and work on them to have a better result. I was designing a Menu for the first time and inculcating language techniques into it was a task for me. Helping each other and synergizing with every teammate made it easier and time-efficient for us, as an individual I was able to bring out the culture of Morocco with the help of my text type and the set up we created for the event.

L2-
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

The biggest challenges I felt was to research as Morocco wasn’t an economically powerful country and finding of its royal family and dishes was a task. Also managing time was a huge issue having studies on the head, taking out time to sit down and created drafts and illustrations were very difficult. I believe that I learned that planning is a very important aspect of everything you do from drafting to execution. Communicating with the mentor and subject teachers helped me gain a better understanding of the task and the execution.

L3-
Initiating and Planning a CAS experience

Planning was the biggest component of the CAS experience as everything should be interconnected to the subject Language and Literature. So from choosing text types to initiating a CAS experience all of it got delayed due to submission and submitting tasks, so we had to rush at the end moment to get the task done and dusted on time. Allocating, Approving, Analysing and Appreciating were the 4 important A’s in this event. I think at the end all that mattered was the evacuation and we as a group are very proud of ourselves that was could put up a great show and inform the audience about the royal wedding in Morocco and how language plays an important role.
