Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey was an event catering to learning across subjects from Humanities. We focused on the concepts of Globalisation, Innovation, and Ethics. The entire grade 11 had to participate in this event. We were divided into 5 groups: Fashion and Cosmetics, Entrepreneurs, Food, Entertainment, and there was one team for managing the whole event. Some percentage of whatever we earned would go to the education of underprivileged kids.

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

L6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

L7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

I was a part of the Fashion and Cosmetics group and we chose our brand name to be Bend the trend. I had the responsibility of making the lip balms from home. It was a very challenging process as I had never done it before I had to who first find out how to make it and I also had to figure out what kind of containers to buy. I even had to decide the price for each lip balm. I had never done any of this before so it was all very new to me. I decided to make the lip balms in different flavors so that my customers would have a variety of options to choose from. I needed to mix petroleum jelly and any flavor to make them. However, when I started making it I realized that the method I had planned did not work and both the ingredients didn’t mix. So I had to figure out another way that I could do it and managed to do so. This was a very time-consuming process which shows that one of my weakness was that I didn’t think the process through before starting it but after I started it, however, I also realized my strength which was that I was quick on my feet and was able to do justice to my task even at the last minute. Poverty and lack of proper education is a global issue that prevents an individual to enjoy life the same way as others. Most of us are privileged and are not aware of how others suffer. This event was an opportunity for us to give back to them, which were able to do for them by donating a portion of money towards the cause. While doing any business it is very important to follow certain Business Ethics. Since we were also doing business in a way it was very important that we follow the same ethics. We did have the chance to put at higher prices for our products and gain more profit however that would have been ethically incorrect. We made cheap products and charged accordingly and our main aim was to collect money so that we could donate some to the education of underprivileged children as well. This way we were also catering to another business ethic which was CSR (corporate social responsibility). Even though ours was not an established business and we did not generate a lot of revenue, we were glad to have contributed how much ever we could. After the event, I could say that I was very proud of what I and my group members had done and that our event was a huge success.
