I have started to go to the gym in order to increase my overall fitness. I also need to gain weight as I am underweight according to my BMI. I am working towards improving my upper body, lower body, and core strength, as well as my flexibility and endurance. I go to the gym for 1 hour every day from Monday to Saturday, working on different areas each day. Going to the gym will help me achieve better fitness
Learning Outcomes achieved
L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
L4 – commitment to and perseverance
L7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
There was a long period of time before I joined the gym that I did very little physical activity. I was always underweight and not very strong physically which affected my daily routine. Until I started going to the gym, I didn’t even realize how much I needed it. When I initially joined, I found out my strengths and weaknesses and which areas I needed to work more upon. Physical strength was one of my biggest weaknesses as it was difficult for me to pick up even 2 kg weight and my speed wasn’t up to my potential. However, the things that I was still good at were endurance and to some extent flexibility. I was really disappointed with myself after realizing that I was so unfit at such a young age. At first, I was always discouraged to go looking at how I couldn’t do much, my body hurt all the time and since I went in the 6:00 am batch, I was also too lazy to wake up at 5:30 the morning. However, after the first month or so, I started enjoying a little bit and had also started to see little changes in myself which made me start willingly wanting to go to the gym. After that, I dedicatedly went to the gym and tried not to miss even a single class. I was a part of a group during my training and we had a common instructor. We had equipment specifically for our group program and we got some of the equipment from the gym. As we share our equipment with others, I believe that it is very important to follow the gym etiquette and ethics at all times. To make sure we did that, I always reminded my groupmates to put their things back from where they took it and I ensured that I did the same. Secondly, if there are so many people using the resources, it wasn’t right for us to hold on to certain equipment because we were going to be using it later. It was our responsibility to do the right thing and follow the right ethics. Following these things and showing dedication helped me to have a significant improvement in my fitness and also gave me more self-confidence.
