LEARNING PIANO!

I believe that along with our physical health we should take care of our mental health as well as play a vital role. Music is always has been something that I have been passionate about and has acted as a getaway from my busy life. I love to listen to music and it is something common among everybody. Ever since childhood, I was keen to learn new musical instruments but with the piano, I felt a deep connection with it. During my summer break as I wanted to learn the piano so I joined a music class that provided a summer course regarding it.

Learning outcomes covered in this activity:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

As I played, the strengths I was able to identify of mine were that I have really good listening skills along with relating it with the keys of the piano and was able to follow the instructions of the teacher well. However, when it comes to my weaknesses,  my major weakness was lack of patience. There are many points one needs to understand to achieve perfection which includes many things such as correct posture, proper fingering, coordination et cetera. It requires a lot of patience, dedication, discipline, and practice. I held a positive attitude towards my weaknesses and thought that it will help me with my impatient nature regarding some things which will in return help me in the future and my grasping skills will enhance.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:

Learning any new instrument from scratch is a challenge. I had a habit to listen to music on a regular basis and have learned guitar before however learning how to play the piano was far more difficult than expected. I had to have a lot of patience as I had to coordinate both of my hands playing chords and lyrics at the same time from the hands which takes a lot of practice, understanding, and good relating skills with the cords and notes, my back used to hurt a lot as I had to keep a straight posture while playing along with a toe on the paddle However, my tutor came to my rescue when I used to get frustrated by not playing the song correctly and made me understand that patience and perseverance is the most important thing to achieve perfection in any task.

Looking back to it, I felt so satisfied and proud of myself that I completed a challenge that I took and learned something thing else on a broader aspect as well.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience.

To achieve anything, commitment and perseverance is the most important thing. Learning piano was totally out of my comfort zone. I used to spare 30 minutes to 1 hour to practice and it slowly became my everyday routine but it was difficult to take out time for it as I was occupied with my school tasks related to my academics but still I maintained my dedication by practice anything new that I had learned and basic key practices that were taught to me. Just saying things and commit to it is more difficult when putting into the task and I felt very happy that I achieved my goal by committing to it.
