Videography

Description:

Recently I have been making movies about the places I visit (like a travel movie). I share my perspective of the world to the world by uploading the videos to Youtube. I do not intend to make profits out of it. This activity makes me physically active and be creative. I capture the world through my phone or my camera and then edit them in my computer adding some music and transitions to the videos. This process also involves finding resources and perfect music for the video.

Reflection:

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Last year I realized I can be a decent videographer, filming the places I visit with my friends and family. I wanted to share my experience that’s why I decided to start a youtube channel where I can post my work for the people to watch. I did not go to any videography or editing classes I learned the process on my own and became fairly good at it. With practice, my videos got better and I got to know the Do’s and Don’ts while filming anything. Nowadays I also shoot short films for events like FSMUNs and Karma Kitchen. I have also made a video about our CAS trip where we covered wells to save lions. I came to understand that my strength is to make videos on the software “Adobe Premiere Pro” and I continued to make videos from it and tried other software as well.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

As I said earlier I did not go to any of the classes or workshop to learn to edit, filming, directing and getting the perfect shot. I learned all of this on my own by watching youtube videos about how to shoot, edit and create a decent video. To be honest it took 2-3 weeks to edit my first video as I did not know anything about the software and how to use it. By watching youtube videos on how to create videos I started my journey of making videos. Also, the challenge I faced was time management by that I mean managing time between academics, sports, school, other activities and making videos. I overcame this challenge when I started to edit more videos. Practicing the basics made the process faster which took very less time to complete than before. This efficiency helped me to make time for my other activities.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

To gain more viewers on youtube you need to add content on a regular basis, even though I did not post my videos more often I was uploading 1 video every two months. I tried my best to adhere to these deadlines. This required commitment and a lot of efforts. This helped me learn more and explore different types of music, style of editing and work of different people. Creating videos also required perseverance as editing takes a long time to load files on the timeline of the software and even longer to render the video out. Every time I used to sit down to edit I always had a thought to give up but I didn’t and continued to do my work. Also when showing the videos publicly has some downsides like people’s negative comments which can be very disturbing but I do not focus on them and try to learn from them.

Final take away:

No one tells/forces me to create videos. It’s out of self-interest and passion, I personally love to make videos and present the world in my perspective. I can not say I have mastered videography, I still am on the learning stage but this passion for making videos tends to impress a few people. That reaction and comment makes me happy and helps me to continue editing. People do criticize my work but I don’t let that affect my work.
