Art for everyone

Art for everyone is a platform wherein students who love and appreciate art get a chance to introduce, teach and create drawings, paintings and many more to underprivileged children (at a Government school). A program like this is important globally because throughout the world there are underprivileged kids who because of lack of awareness do not reach their fullest potential and we in our little way wanted to contribute and help create awareness about different fields available to a child (which in this case is arts). While doing this the LO-6 is covered as we understand that due to lack of resources and experiences these kids won’t be able to even learn whether they like a form of activity or not, through this little program we want to introduce the basic forms of art to them and to teach them how to appreciate one another’s work.

We started this program by first sending out an email to our school students to donate as many art resources as they could so that no new resources are wasted. We had kept an empty box outside each grade so that the process goes smoothly, by doing this we completed LO-3. I am generally very organized when it comes to my work and being organized, helps us to get a wider view of what needs to be done in order to reach our goals. This process of initiating an event has helped me to be more confident to initiate more plans, as initiating and believing in your own ideas can be hard and strenuous. The most important thing to know about initiating the plan is to have confidence in oneself, to be sure that idea is full proof and to have a good team. This programme was built with ingredient of teamwork, after getting all the resources and permission from the government school we divided ourselves into group according to our skills, as I was good with coloring I was in the coloring group by doing this I completed LO-5 as all of us had different artistic skills we could help each kid with our fullest potential.  I didn’t have to work with anybody who was difficult but it just took us a little time making the kids comfortable with us as, in the beginning, they refrained from taking or sharing their ideas. By the end of it, they were little kids and just by talking about the things they loved like cartoons, games, food we made them friends. I think working collaboratively as I mentioned before has helped everybody to get the best out of themselves and to learn a lot of different skills from the people they are working with. I’m my case a new skill I learned is to be more patient, one of my team members established a very good rapport with the kids because he was patient, I watched and learned and applied the same with kids I was catering to and it really made a difference.

The days of the event were spectacular when I reached there I felt a sense of belonging. The children were full of enthusiasm and spark, they loved the idea of drawing their imagination by using different colors, sharing resources and peeping into each other’s work. I went to teach them about 2 times and even though I had a lot of school work,  I was perseverant to go and teach them as both of us (students and me) gave each other a lot of happiness and I completed my LO-4. The commitment that was required was time and those weekends what I really did not have was time but I felt commitment was required over here as I had promised those kids to return and I loved seeing smiles on their faces. I really did want to let them down.  I never knew that I could be so great with children until I met these kids, this program helped understand my strength and develop them. After knowing that I have this strength it made me feel more aware and known about myself and because of this program, I could also see my future for child psychology as a career path. It is very important for one to know their strengths as in my case it opened a completely new path of psychology for myself. Through this LO-1 was used.
